In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. Practice makes perfect.....post on....

1. To infer (something) without sufficiently conclusive evidence
2. To make a guess or conjecture

It wafted nearer yet, and then she knew That what before she but surmised, was true. --Dryden.

She was a union rep before being promoted to management, has never changed her stripes.

I remember her getting pi$$ed a few months ago. We have a govt subsidized housing development downtown that has been razed to create a diverse housing development, which will have upscale condos along with govt subsidized apartments. I wondered out loud who in their f*ing right mind would actually invest in real estate under those circumstances. She on the other hand thinks it is a good, progressive idea. Haven't seen her plunking down money to live there yet.

I read just about anything - but I would read the ingredient list on my toothpaste before I would read that tripe.

Hubby and I just had a little talk on the phone. He decided that he can let me have a weekend either at the end of august, or early sept (depends on when his schedule stops including saturdays), to go off someplace leaving friday and coming back sunday so now I have to figure out where to go. I want to go visit my best friend, but she works weekends so that's out. I need to find an adult to stay near that know where to find adult fun. Any nearby takers or ideas? I have no problems staying at a cheap hotel but I do want some adult fun. (aka bars, drinking, pool tables, drinking, darts, drinking.. hell i'm even up for strip clubs, if there is drinking.)

In Birmingham, usually up their collective a$$es. We also keep hearing about the city getting a domed stadium, which we don't need. It will become the world's largest domed flea market within 3 years.

And what work did that come from? I don't think I am familiar with it.

BTW, welcome to WFTD, ignore the inmates, they're not dangerous. :-)

Here's a site attributing variations on it it variously: Churchill, Wendell Wilkie, George Bernard Shaw (not likely, unless in the mouth of one of his characters), Aristide Briand (I prefer Chateaubriand, but who cares?), Bill Casey, Woodrow Wilson (ha!), Bismarck, Clemenceau, Lloyd George, Disraeli, etc.

That is funny...I can just see the boys here in class preferring that, and admitting it!

At the same time, one in three men admitted to being 'worried sick' about what their future wife gets up to during her hen party

worried they might actually find someone who is not a dang fruit???

since Churchill did change from lib to conservative, it fits his bio. the blunt directness also fits his personality

Lady Chesterton(I think it was her) :If you were my husband, I'd put poison in your tea"
Churchill : IF I were your husband, I'd drink it!
