In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. Practice makes perfect.....post on....

surmise \sur*myze\, verb, transitive/intransitive; noun

1. To infer (something) without sufficiently conclusive evidence
2. To make a guess or conjecture
3. Reflection; thought. [Obs.]
4. An idea or opinion based on insufficiently conclusive evidence; a conjecture.

It wafted nearer yet, and then she knew That what before she but surmised, was true. --Dryden.

We don't have cats that do that - it's the demonic little English sparrows!

a good parent usually wins the power struggles. they are responsible and therefore need to be in charge. my kid WAS a screamer. the ex would go up, read, talk, play music, and the nighttime ritual quickly became a two hour ordeal. whne the ex went away for a month, it took me two days to convince the tyke that bedtime was bedtime. by the time the ex returned, she was amazed: I wouuld tell the kid, "bedtime" and she would drop what she was doing, run upstairs, change in to her pj's and climb into bed. nary a peep.

and there was NO force, real or threatened involved.

Wow. You were lucky. Although it sounds like she was manipulating your ex, if she was like most kids, she wouldn't have given up that easy. Count your blessings!

i do. the tyke is a great kid, even if she is now the typical 16yo.

I took her aside and told her how we do things around here when mommy is gone. of course, now she tells ME when it's bedtime - and I go to bed:-)

Saturday, xsteen babysat the 4 yo daughter of a friend of ours, a single mom. the mom asked xsteen how she gets the little one to go to bed for her without a problem? xsteen said i just read her a story and said it is time to sleep now! they will do what you let them get away with. not like xsteen is some disciplinarian mind you. she is NOT, but she acted like it was bedtime, so her little charge went to sleep!

When the neighbor finds the trophy I'll leave them....... In a gardenhome community, loose dogs and cats are a nuisance. I shovel dog sh!t and take to appropriate neighbor's yard. LulaBelle is under our control either via the backyard fence or leash at all times. It's for her safety as much as anything. If we lived out with more room the cats would run free via pet door, but the dog would be confined still.
