Two more rumors bite the dust (Ride home and torn clothing just not true, sources say)
The Vail Daily ^ | 8/4/03 | The Vail Daily

Two more reports regarding the Kobe Bryant case circulating among part of the national media were debunked Monday.

Media reports that the 19-year-old woman who Bryant allegedly assaulted received a ride home is not the case, sources said Monday. Reports that her clothing was torn are also untrue, sources also.

Sources told the Daily that the alleged victim managed to get herself home by 11:50 p.m., June 30, after ending the shift at the Lodge at Cordillera at around 11:10 p.m.

They also said that while her clothing was disheveled and showed signs that something had occurred, it wasn't torn or ripped, as some reports indicated.

"Some of the reports made it sound like something out of a bad movie," said one source. "It wasn't like that."

The reports are part of a larger set of rumors and gossip that have been circulating across the country about the case. Among them:

- That the alleged victim was in the room two hours. It was only about 20 minutes.

- When she came down, she was hysterical. She was not. Sources said she was in a stupor and a state of shock.

- A few days before the incident, the alleged victim had accused another hotel worker of sexual harassment, getting him fired. Not true, said the man who was terminated. It was not the alleged victim.

Cameras in court

Eagle County Judge Fred Gannett ruled that not only is Bryant required to appear at 4 p.m. Wednesday, he also ruled Monday that there will be cameras in the courtroom.

Gannett denied a motion by Bryant's attorneys asking Gannett to reconsider an earlier order allowing one video camera and one still camera in the courtroom while Bryant is advised of the charges against him, and also advised of his rights.

Hannity said the testimony would be "shocking". He has certainly backed down this last week or so form being a total Kobe supporter.

Because the Vail Daily is the local newspaper of record. I should hope that by operating in Eagle County Day in and day out for 25 years or however long they have been in business, they would have developed better local police/court sources then Fox news or the NY Slimes. Unlike the national press this case isn't the first, last, or only time the Vail Daily will utilize local "sources" for inside information on a story

(From the Vail Daily Managing Editor)

"We've had some home-court advantage with sources, but that's not likely to last as the national journalists settle in, rent apartments and play on that siren's call to national exposure."

"I don't have a website. Do you have one? "

I use to have honeygrl.com but I let it expire a year or so ago. A lot of techie types have their own websites.

Yuppers. He acknowledges it himself. Plus, of course, the local stringers who DO have long relationships with the cops there will be working for the big boys too.

Riiiiight. Jason Blair, and the Washington Post with their Colin Powell is resigning tomorrow "sources." Yeah you guys go right on believing the Alphabet and the Times on this case (hypocritically I might add, as they are routinely criticized for their coverage of other stories here on FR).

I'll stick to the local rags and the Enquirer.

"Why not just wait for the trial?"

It would make these threads rather boring.

Thanks for the link to Pietrack's website. He seems like a nice enough kid, if a little unrealistic.

I have decided not to comment on statements assigned to anonymous sources or to persons other than those speaking on camera until 24 hours have passed. So many times, the story has changed.

I consider statements made by people who are willing to go on camera and speak for themselves about what they saw or heard as far more trustworthy. I'm talking about people like Luke Bray and the five (?) partygoers. Those reports were not along the same lines by any means and of course any or all of them could be wrong, but at least we don't have to guess who said what or if the person really said what they are said to have said.

What Rita Cosby SAID that friends of the bellhop SAID that the belllhop SAID that the accuser SAID (what is that, quadruple hearsay?) is very unreliable, IMO.

You do that.

At the end of the day however, I should imagine you will believe what you want to believe rather than what the local paper tells you...

Was the shock and stupor due to not getting paid for her services or what?

Yeah well I tend to agree. Just it's been awhile since someone has actually gone on camera or been quoted directly. This bellboy kid seems to have come out of the woodwork.

A quote notebook has been lovingly compiled by some associates on another website. If you would like I send you a link to it. Fascinating reading. Maybe you have some additional quotes you could contribute. There is also an extensive legal discussion (with 5 lawyers)

"Unrealistic" is right. I don't know much about basketball but I do know you need to be rather taller than 5ft 10...

Bob Pietrack • 11 • Outside • Junior • 5'10" • 180 lbs.

Yeah, that's what I mean. Basketball seems to be his life, and he wants to earn his living in the sport. I suspect that that is not going to happen. Oh, well, there are certainly bigger wastes of time.

the five (?) partygoers

You mean the five who are nameless, faceless and some reporter said that he had heard them say that they had heard her say whatever?

Saw her for the first time in a few months yesterday and noticed that she was "filling the screen" a lot more than she had in the past.

Good thing I bought that wide-sceen tv last month. LOL!

I've noticed that they try not to show too many long shots of her on camera. If she doesn't learn when not to clip-clop up to the buffet table, she's going to end up like Candy Crowley over at CNN. Now THERE is a big pudding of a woman!

Looks like he fancies himself as the next Michael Jordan. Hmmm...

But not another Kobe, thankfully?

Then I guess the correct charge would be "necrophilia"?

Necrocide, stemming from misnecronist self-loathing.
