Two more reports regarding the Kobe Bryant case circulating among part of the national media were debunked Monday.
Media reports that the 19-year-old woman who Bryant allegedly assaulted received a ride home is not the case, sources said Monday. Reports that her clothing was torn are also untrue, sources also.
Sources told the Daily that the alleged victim managed to get herself home by 11:50 p.m., June 30, after ending the shift at the Lodge at Cordillera at around 11:10 p.m.
They also said that while her clothing was disheveled and showed signs that something had occurred, it wasn't torn or ripped, as some reports indicated.
"Some of the reports made it sound like something out of a bad movie," said one source. "It wasn't like that."
The reports are part of a larger set of rumors and gossip that have been circulating across the country about the case. Among them:
- That the alleged victim was in the room two hours. It was only about 20 minutes.
- When she came down, she was hysterical. She was not. Sources said she was in a stupor and a state of shock.
- A few days before the incident, the alleged victim had accused another hotel worker of sexual harassment, getting him fired. Not true, said the man who was terminated. It was not the alleged victim.
Cameras in court
Eagle County Judge Fred Gannett ruled that not only is Bryant required to appear at 4 p.m. Wednesday, he also ruled Monday that there will be cameras in the courtroom.
Gannett denied a motion by Bryant's attorneys asking Gannett to reconsider an earlier order allowing one video camera and one still camera in the courtroom while Bryant is advised of the charges against him, and also advised of his rights.

I don't equate putting a brutal rapist behind bars as the same as a baseball game. I am assuming for the sake of argument that Kobe is indeed guilty. I don't really know if Kobe is innocent or guilty as I have not seen evidence yet. As for leaving FR-why would anyone leave because people disagree with them? It is the exchange of ideas that makes FR a wonderful and interesting place.

You "KB IS GUILTY" cheerleaders have chased the rest away. I have a suspicion he may have done it, and I've been up front about that, so spare me the grand "granting permission" crap. I am fair and open to exculpatory evidence.
It's too bad you think I and others "chased others away". It's not my fault if they can't buttress their arguments.
I haven't been rude or anything. How did I chase anyone away?
I don't suppose you can give an example of "jumping down the throats of those who question the accuser", can you? I don't suppose the concept of presenting an opposing point of view, complete with documentation to explain why that position was arrived at, is acceptable behavior?
What did the accuser haters want, an encounter session where they could trash her non-stop without contradiction?

I don't have a particular reason for not believing this story. It's just as a Mother of four-much experience with the young- I have two teenagers at home. It doesn't ring true. It is my opinion-nothing else.

and open to exculpatory evidence. But there doesn't seem to be any of that being "leaked," does it?

The people who reported it to Rita are reporting gossip and innuendo. Anyone who believes that any report about this case is factual... is well foolish.

Will you become so emotionally invested in seeing KB go down that you'll leave FR if he doesn't? What on God's green earth are you thinking?
Good grief.
No, sinkspur, I am not emotionally invested, I am interested. I have opinions and I back them up with reasoning.
Period.
And your Westerfield effect theory is screwed up and mine is right on target.

Looks like some people think Kobe's guilty as heck:
ITALY/USA: Kobe Bryant loses Nutella endorsement deal
05 Aug 2003
Source: just-food.com
The US subsidiary of Italian food manufacturer Ferrero will not renew its endorsement deal with NBA star Kobe Bryant because of the stars sexual assault charge.
Ferrero USA's contract with Kobe Bryant expires in January 2004, the company said in a statement. Marketing plans established earlier this year did not contemplate a contract renewal. In keeping with this decision, and considering the recent developments, Kobe's image on Nutella labels and promotional material is being phased out.
Bryant is charged with sexually assaulting a 19-year-old woman earlier this summer. He claims they had consensual sex, and is due to make an initial appearance in court later this week, reports the San Jose Mercury News.
Bryants deals with Nike and Coca-Cola subsidiary Sprite remain in place, although he will not be appearing in any Sprite ads for the remainder of this year.

Do you actually READ the posts of the people who are in agreement with you that all things Kobe = guilty?Your whole tone since you arrived on the thread tonight illustrates just who is emotional and who is discussing.
I think the personal insults to me are unnecessary.

The rape shield laws do not prohibit "a defendant ... [getting] his friend to swear they heard a victim making all kinds of statements that would smear the victim, thus helping the defendant." It is more than allowed -- it is expected and required that evidence which attacks the credibility of the accuser be presented.
Of course, if the statements are knowingly false, then perjury charges could arise. But short of perjury, relevant testimony which makes the accuser look bad ("smears the victim") is fair game.
To: Howlin
Well, I haven't seen any evidence that is truly helpful to Kobe.

Even some of Kobe's most avid supporters are softening their tone and backing away. Today the attorney Kendall Coffey said it would be prudent for Bryant to stop making all these high-profile public appearances, and lay low for awhile.
Of, course, Bryant can't avoid the public appearance coming up tomorrow in the Eagle County Courthouse. ;)

I honestly believe that if there was a videotape of this girl confessing she made it all up, you'd swear she had been bought off.

This is not correct. The law clearly state what sort of evidence can be presented. Smearing the victim is not permitted. Of course evidence that is considered to have a bearing on the case can be admitted at the judge's discretion. The suicide attempts may be admitted in this fashion, but they may not.
