Here it is, finally, my poem for those wonderful guys in Afghanistan -- the 82nd Airborne
God Bless the troops who carried on
Despite a fright of feeling
God Bless the hearts that bled upon
The places we are kneeling
At day's end take them proudly to
The flag for careful folding
And warm them with a thank, or two
From lives that they are holding
For all is well and home is sure
From evil that would smite US
They tender safety and secure
The fold from those who spite us
Then hoist a flag to morning-shine!
To liberty's light brightest
The troops who own and ever mind
The stars and bars - the finest
