The Hobbit Hole IV – The Road Goes Ever On…
Posted on 08/04/2003 9:43:18 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
The Road Goes Ever On
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Unfortunately, I had "borrowed" that pic a few times, but certainly not so many as to justify such a rebuke!

Well, I'm currently downloading the updates for my McAfee. I feel like it's a good thing I got it.
I tell you, this is only my second experience with a virus. I got the klez virus through my hotmail account and it deleted it before I could open it. Now this. Apparently the person that sent this out had some kind of irritation with Bill Gates?
It's just a bit of a blow to me, and I hope you'll understand. I think most people are pretty decent people and aren't out to "git me". But this person has really messed up my normal routine now for almost 2 days. I'm just sitting here disgusted with this person and with myself for not being prepared for something like this.
I just wish I could go back to the time I could sleep with my windows open and not have to worry about locking the door. This whole experience has got me down.
Thank you all for all your help.

Well I'm still at the office, but I'm reminded that there is a full moon tonite...

You are strong 2J, you will survive this and on the other side you will be better prepared to defend your own.
I didn't read the details, but I hope it didn't cause too much damage to your system. Personally I kind of believe the virus scan companies put these viruses out in order to remain in business. I mean, what would they do if there were no more viruses?

As far as I can tell, this particular little bugger was meant to only annoy and I think cause a "denial of service" for Microsoft, somehow. I'm not technical enough to understand it...

You will like this. Am posting the email I got last week from S-I-L. I made bold the stuff particularly related to us. :-)
Dear [Hobbit Hole],
Hi! Sorry I haven't written sooner but we are having huge issues with our capability to keep our LAN running and our phone network is failing now as well. You would think with all the money we spend we could figure out a way to keep this stuff up.
Thank you for the package you sent us. The pictures of the girls were outstanding. I miss them so much. It was very well recieved and didnt last long at all. The sundries went really fast. Iv'e told everyone in the platoon about how they have all been adopted by your group and they are all very happy about this. Of course 2/3 of the guys in the platoon smoke cigarettes and they would be more than happy to get anykind of smokes as they are hard to come by over here. There is a tactical PX about 10 miles away but with our schedule and work load we have never even come close to going there.
The temperature just keeps on climbing! It really is incredible. I didnt think that I could ever stand in 125 degree heat! I went to use my camp shower around 1000 am this morning and almost burned all of my skin off! I have to bring it inside from now on.
Please take care of yourself and please tell the friends at the hobbit hole we are very grateful to have them as friends. Take care, [son-in-law]

And PRAISE THE LORD! My sister just called and HER company wants to interview me as well. They pay a little more and are much bigger (ADP Totalsource, payroll company).

Well, I got the McAfee all loaded and updated. I'm gonna run a full system scan here in a sec, while I'm working on school with Matthew. Then, I'll breathe easier.
Talk to you later.

Okay. Here is an email from the following day when I explained to Tom about the special gifts!
Dear [Hobbit Hole],
The guys are excited about the knives .... [portion of message removed where all guys in platoon want the email address of single woman sending cigarettes]
We are very thankful for your thoughtfulness and your prayers. Your marine friend is correct about the graphite. We all brought one tube with us but it is long gone now.
Please take care of yourself and know that you are in our thoughts and prayers, love Tom
