The Hobbit Hole IV – The Road Goes Ever On…
Posted on 08/04/2003 9:43:18 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
The Road Goes Ever On
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

We lose more people to crime in California every day than we do occupying Iraq and Afghanistan combined.... I agree. Well said.
Look at the total number of people we have lost in the terrorist's attacks in the last decade +. 1st WTC bombing, Cole, 2nd bombing, Pentegon, Pennysylvania, embassy attacks. The attacks were constantly escalating. Count the losses in those attackes and compare with what we've had in Afghanistan and Iraq. That is a hard thing for me to say with my s-i-l there. But, I also know what he would say and he's with you and I. This is the way it gets stopped. We either pay it now, or lose more until we decide to do it. Or we lose our way of life. To me, it's that simple.

Morning 2J. Just got through reading and catching up on the thread. Everybody else said what I thought about Josh's first day of school. And you've come to that conclusion yourself.
I only wish I'd have had a mom who was concerned about my comfort and ability to play at school instead of dressing me all up in frou-frou dresses with lace and junk. Which is the equivalent of what those other mom's dressed their kids in. Give me Levis and a T-Shirt any day and you've got a comfy gal! That's how we want the Jedi's too.
Besides, we already know how well-adjusted the Jedi's are so let's just let 'em be regular people. Not plastic dress-up dolls.

Since you were on a genealogy trip last week, I meant to tell you this. Our pastor's wife told an incredible story yesterday.
Her parents came here from Poland after WWII. Basically they had "two feather pillows and a feather comforter." Little else, no family heirlooms, pictures, etc. As an aside a number of years ago our pastor was able to introduce his f-i-l to a man who was with the U.S. forces that freed the concentration camp where our pastor's wife's father was.
Anyway, Pastor and his wife and daughter went to Slovakia this summer to meet with missionaries we support there. They decided that since they were so close they would also go to Poland. Trouble was, they had no information, no names, no addresses etc.
So they had her mother trace the routes on a map (the villages were so small they were not on the map). This she did from her memories of 60 years ago.
In one village, they had decided the would have no luck. The daughter pointed to some older women sitting on a bench and said "Mom, why don't you as those ladies?" (Helen speaks fluent Polish). So she did. The first four ladies knew nothing. Another came along and another. Also nothing. Finally a lady came along and said "That's my best friend."
Helen was connected with her mom's cousin, her dad's cousin. And they were able to see her mom's home and the location of her dad's farm.
When they went to visit her dad's cousin, the gentleman was quite confused. His wife was a little better. But she pulled out a photo album. A picture fell out and she started to stuff it back in the album. She didn't know who the people were.
But Helen grabbed it. It was a picture of Helen, her brother and her parents from the early 50s.
