In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Good Morning Class. Welcome to School!

Class is now in session. The rules are simple; you get a grade if you use the WFTD in a sentence, haiku, limerick, or quatrain. You get a "+" if you make a link, or make the teacher laugh, or you offer the appropriate bribes. I hold the grade book, and the whip and chair.

This city's superintendent of schools, who recently put two dozen teachers on unpaid leave for failing a basic English proficiency test, has himself flunked a required literacy test three times.

I know my opinion of the public school system is no surprise to any of you, but this is an outrage! Our educators are supposed to know their subjects and with that, be able to teach them in a clear, concise manner to our children. A school superintendent should not only be able to pass all literacy and proficiency exams, but should be able to do so with flying colors. The excuses that are being made for this gentleman are all a load of rot! I want them to elucidate why they pay him $156,000 dollars a year, if he has failed this exam three times. They should clarify why he is not on unpaid administrative leave until he is capable of passing this exam.

There is no excuse for is happening within our schools, our money pays for them, we should be able to expect the best, not the most politically correct, or the most avante guarde. Our schools are mass-producing people that cannot or will not be able to function in the real world. With superintendents such as this, is it any real surprise? /rant (climbing down from my soap box)

Yup. Funny thing was it didn't look like it was going to happen after both teams scored 0 in the third quarter.
