There is so much hype that this movie sucks that I have to ask this question. Is Hollywood appealling to the grade B crowd? "Showgirls" was pornographic and pathetic (as opposed to "Basic Instinct" which in spite of the porn was a realy good yarn). Yet they bothered to make a DVD of this piece of sh*t. "Pearl Harbor" (also with Ben Aflek) was an insult to the veterans of the event and a mockery of "Tora, Tora, Tora" yet even I have the DVD! There are people out there that love crap movies and make "cult" status to them. Could this be one?
Bad movies abound. One need only to look at "Mystery Theater 3000" on the SciFi channel. They have an audience. "Somewhere in Time" with Jane Seymour and Superman sucked as much as it was sappy. The critics booed. We watch to see the train wreck. "Ace Ventura, Pet Detective" sucked, was trashed by the critics, but it made Jim Carry a star!! And they made a sequal that was even worse!!!! All of this trashing might only prove to draw the audience. This could lead to the cult status of this flick. 5 years you to could be going to it with your raincoats and day old toast!!

MST3000 is great, not because of the movies, but because of the comments. The movies themselves are unviewable.
Ace ventura was great! The only criticism of it was Marino should have been shot (I'm a Bills fan). ;-)

Is Hollywood appealing to the grade B crowd? The latest group of so-called leading men sure look like grade B.
Ben Afflect, Matt Damon, Ashton Kutcher, can you get any more bland? Boring, boring, boring. And what's with Brad Pitt? I know alot of women supposedly think he's the greatest, but I don't see it. Frankly, he looks like he stinks,(and he looks like a nose picker) in fact, I read somewhere that he is smelly.
Sheesh, these new guys, it's like watching cardboard move around.

You have been warned.
Things I learned from this movie:
- Hell is filled with bad lounge singers.
- Hooch, not Big Red, is the best way to hold a kiss for hours.
- Poodles make for poor guard dogs.
- Moths are attracted to light sources. (The filmmakers did not seem learn this lesson.)
- Trying to beat someone's brains out against soft, sandy ground, is futile.
- Women are impatient when they are horny.
- I need to get out more. Where were those women again?

What are the odds on this marriage? I give them 4 months. No matter. It's one man and one woman and licensed by the government, so it's obviously part of the foundation of a strong society < s/>

I knew someone who had a walk on part in Ishtar that was cut in the final edit. They said it was their big show business break.

The real cult flicks, like Rocky Horror and Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, are really well done parodies. From everything I've heard and read about Gigli, it's just plain garbage.

The best MST3K is the Movie! Their target for the movie, This Island Earth, is a classic film with or without their comments. Best MST line over the film: Gilligan's Island's Professor's cameo appearance - "What's this "and the rest"
cr@p?!"

Well, I hold this as one of the gold standards for bad movies (although I still say "Ishtar" is in a class by itself"

Oops...reply in #30 was addressed to you. The villain in "The Wrestling Women vs. the Aztec Mummy" was, if I remember correctly, a rotund Hispanic man in a cape whose name was "The Bat."
He was dispatched, as the narrator told us, by falling into a "nearby pit of vipers."

I really liked "the swimmer". It is about a man looking backward, realizing there were mistakes along the way and I thought was very insightful. The plot device of him swimming through the neighbors swimming pools was stupid, but the acting was good and the themes were good.

The latest group of so-called leading men sure look like grade B. I think today's pc thinking do not allow for a heroic man figure. Gregory Peck could not find a part today.

I loved Attack of the Killer tomatoes also. But another cult film you should see is "Dark Star".

Well, perhaps my opinion was colored by when and where I saw it.
I was a young Air Force wife living in West Berlin in the mid-60's. The base had a movie theater and once a week the movie would change. We all looked forward to seeing something in English and a little bit of American culture.
So, here we go to see "The Swimmer" starring Burt Lancaster. Imagine our attitude when we find out that the entire movie was simply his review of his life before he died! Ugh! I wasn't much interested in films that explore themes about the meaning of life (actually, I am still not) and my reaction was TAME compared to the servicemen in that audience! Some threw trash at the screen. LOL!
To: Miss Marple
I can see why a young american at that time would object as the movie was highly critical of american suburban life. As a young person, the movie also lacked "action" (things blowing up, car chases, sex, etc.) However, compared to movies today, "the swimmer" stands out as a masterpiece.

Well, you see, when I want something to make me think, I read novels or poetry. I just do not find movies a suitable medium for exploring philosophical matters. That is my personal taste, although I am certain there are people who enjoy serious cinema.
When I go to the movies, I mostly look for inspiring stories (Sea Biscuit), explosions (Independence Day), or Mel Gibson and/or Sean Connery. Quite shallow of me, I know, but there you have it.

maybe the sheeple aren't as dumb as we think....gigli did $654 per screen on opening night(see drudge).
abysmal. it ranks with swept away, the madonna nightmare from a few months back.

"Town & Country."
Watched this one night on TV with hubby, didn't think it was really as bad as they said. And that was me, hubby will watch anything, but, in fact, we both hated "The Avengers" (to our mutual disappointment) and he hated "Spiderman", but I didn't see enough of it to judge.
The Avengers was SO bad that I actually said to him "Do you think people who are making these movies know how bad they are while they're filming them?" I think that must be an awful experience.
