Westy where do you get all your wonderful pictures? If I were an artist, I'd be busy trying to do them in water colors!

The Quiet Man was one of my dad's favorite movies too. He loved the way John Wayne put Maureen O'Hara in her place but he also loved her spunk.

Made it back without incident...except for hassling with one bag that I let my wife pack. She has perfected the art of packing bags and managed to stuff 82-pounds worth of "stuff" in this one. I called it the "body bag" and immediately came under suspicion at the Sacramento airport. They thought they had found the whereabouts of a certain missing basketball player.

The wifey was granted another week of leave and will return next week. My assignment is to avoid going to Peru for a month of work. Things are deteriorating rapidly there.

hi there Loddy....thought it was time for an update.....

Well, after a day of serious bleeding, Doms problem stopped...just all of a sudden....he has been back to the doctor a couple of times, and they are truly stumped.....they did lots of tests, and have examined him several times, and cannot figure out what in the world caused him to bleed so....the thing that was scarey, was that it was just not just a little blood, it looked as if Dom was peeing straight blood...there was so much blood in his urine, that they could not even culture it....and then all of a sudden, just like magic, it all disappeared....very myterious and very puzzling to the doctors.

So this week, he will be seeing the urologist....Now, Dom did have prostate surgery about 8yrs ago....one of those Rooter type surgeries, to help with his enlarged prostate...now after that surgery, he had a catheter in, and I remember after surgery, he had lots and lots of bleeding, his cath bag, looking like it was filled with straight blood, rather than urine. The docs are surmising and guessing that perhaps an adhesion, or some such, left over from that surgery, popped, caused bleeding, and then it healed up, and the bleeding stopped....but the urologist will have to look at Dom and determine if thats the case, or something else...in any case, Dom says his prostate, has enlarged a bit, in the last year or so, so maybe that enlarging caused a problem....so altho cancer is still in Doms and his doctors mind, as a possibility, that possibility may acutally be quite slim...Dom does go in every year to have his PSA test done, and he has always had a good number...so at least that is in his favor....but it may be possible, that sooner or later, he is going to need another prostate surgery....we are just patiently waiting to see what the future holds...

On another note, I am sad to announce the death of my beloved Mr. Dizzy..Last Tuesday nite, as I walked by our bedroom, Mr. Dizzy was sleeping away, as usual....about 15 minutes later, he got up, to come into the family room for his usual snacks, and grooming, and cuddling and all round love fest with me...but he only got as far as crossing the dining room...all of a sudden, he let out a terrible, loud, screaming, painful sounding meow...like something I had never heard from him before...he went kind of limp...when I picked him up, ,he seemed to convulse....I carried him to the sofa, where he went limp again, and then seemed to stretch out his back and front paws, took two big breaths, and was gone...it was that quick....it happened and was over, before I even knew what had happened....

I was in absolute shock...with no warning, my sweet boy was gone....I wrapped him in a blanket, and rocked him and held him, and even talked and sang to him, for well over half an hour, with tears streaming down my face....my heart was broken...

But I placed him in a box, and put a bag of his favorite chicken treats in between his front paws, ,along with his favorite pink brush...and packed his catnip in there with him as well....kind of like the Egyptians did for their dad....silly sounding I suppose, but somehow I just wanted to make sure he had his favorite things with him...after all, he was my big Himalayan Kitty King, and he deserved the best...Dom buried him the next day, out back, with our other three doggies that are buried out there....I called the vet, and he thinks Dizzy had either a massive stroke, or a massive heart attack...without a necropsy, there is no sure way of knowing, and its hardly important to me...what is important, is that altho he had some obvious pain, when this event occurred, it was brief, ,and it was quick....

What mattered most, was that he had a great, comfy life, for the almost three years that he was with us....Dom and I spoiled him as much as we could, and he was an important part of our lives...we shall never forget him, and will certainly mourn for him...he was about 9 or 10 yrs old.....not really old for a cat, as many cats live to almost 20yrs...but for a pure breed, often their life spans are shorter....

Good Bye for now, ,my sweet Dizzy, you were a true blessing to me and Dom

Another sad note...dear Aunt Helen in California, slipped in her bathroom, and conked her head on the sink, and knocked herself out for a few minutes...no broken bones, but a concussion....so my cousins down in Petaluma, have put their foot down, and are having Aunt Helen move from Ukiah down to their area...my cousins home is on a few acres, so they are having a small two bedroom modular home built for Helen, so that she can still have her own place, but be right close to her daughter, and son in law, and everyone feels that this will be a safer place for Helen to be....she will be 79 in September, ,so she said, she guesses its time for her to make this move, for her health and safety reasons....

So, its been a full week for me, with many things happeneing...one never knows what the day will bring....I dont worry about tomorrow anymore, just concentrate on each day as it comes....each day has its own things to be dealt with...

Hope you and yours are well....

Say hi to all on DD, hopefully I will be returning shortly....

Masked Gunmen Attack Mining Camp in Peru
Wed Jul 23,10:12 PM ET

AYACUCHO, Peru - Five masked gunmen attacked a Canadian mining camp in the Andes, killing a Peruvian geologist, wounding another and stealing equipment, police said Wednesday.

Maoist Shining Path rebels were initially suspected in the attack, but a representative from Canadian company Barrick Misquichilca, which operates the camp, said he believed the attackers were bandits and not guerrillas.

The raid occurred near the village of Azanbamba, some 250 miles southeast of Lima in the Ayacucho region, police said.

Police on Wednesday also reported two incidents involving Shining Path guerrillas this week that indicate that a recent guerrilla resurgence is spreading southward across Peru's Ayacucho region.

Police said that a group of 40 armed Shining Path guerrillas on Monday entered a remote hamlet to preach their Maoism-inspired doctrine to the locals. A day later, 20 armed rebels stopped buses and cars near the city of Ayacucho, warning passengers not to celebrate Peru's independence holiday on July 28.

The Shining Path launched its bloody armed struggle in Ayacucho in 1980 after a decade of planning.

By the early 1990s, the guerrillas had thrown the nation into chaos with a campaign of urban car bombings and rural massacres of peasants who refused to support their revolution.

The violence dropped off significantly with the capture of Shining Path founder Abimael Guzman in 1992.

Shining Path founder Abimael Guzman

He wouldn't happen to be a convert to Islam, would he?

Not a convert to the peaceful religion of Islam, but an advocate of the equally peaceful marxist movement.

The Shining Path was originally a marxist/maoist movement, but in time became just another bunch of drug running thugs.

I spoke with my boss and told him if we don't respond the company can forget about doing exploration in Peru. But I'm pretty sure I'm the only person in the company that has been in the military and seen action. They all think I'm nuts to even suggest doing something other than being a target.
