I'm a buyer for a mid-sized international chemical company. I've seen as many salesman in my life as most OBGYN's have seen you-know-whats. All things being equal, the well-polished 20-something set is the last people I want to make a contract with. The reason is because most are hiding a bunch of bull**** behind all that polish.
I'd much rather trust a 40 or 50 something person who has a track record of delivering on what was promised. And if he or she is genuine but not up to the polished sales bull****, I count it as a plus.

Troll somewhere else...if you interviewied 100 candidates in a 10 hour day, how long did you spend with each candidate?

Well, I'm 47, was an at-will employee in senior management, got the axe by a new exec director in late January. Have applied for hundreds of jobs since then and sent out over 1,000 resumes. Got a couple of first interviews. Nothing more than that.
This seems a little extreme. But even with 23 years of experience and the willingness to take a 1/3 paycut (hey, I need medical insurance like everyone else), I am apparently unemployable. So who knows, maybe things are as extreme as this article claims.
