Does any one have trouble with me being a libertarian?

Posted on 07/12/2003 8:29:27 AM PDT by Dan D.Doty

I hope no one here has a problem with me being a libertarian who come to speak on free republic?

I have discovered that most of the liberal/socialist types on the internet are very unreasonable, rude, disrespectful, ignorant in their behaivor towards others who do not mirror their beliefs.

What is a libertarian anyway?

Someone that has every Art Bell radio show stored on cassette tape.

Nope...I'm pretty libertarian too...Best to focus on the common goals conservatives and liberterians have: exposing the failures of socialism/welfare statism...

You'll get some flame on this site, but as long as you don't agree with Rand that a woman has the right to murder her unborn children for the sake of convenience, you'll fly through no flak from me.

1,911,078 users have taken the quiz so far.

Libertarian 35.68 %
Left-liberal 18.59 %
Centrist 30.10 %
Right-Conservative 7.17 %
Authoritarian 8.46 %

Based on polls in the news, the 7% figure seems misleading. Many people believe that the government should not dictate "social" policy, but have conservative values and lead conservative lives themselves. Should such people be counted as conservative? Of course the quiz avoids polarizing issues like late-term abortion. BTW, most conservatives and libertarians do not celebrate poverty anymore than liberals do, we just don't want liberal "solutions."

Ayn Rand. She started the movement. You haven't read much, have you?

Even Libertarians are divided by this as well. Some Pro-Life, others pro-choise.

"Partial-birth abortion, as an elective method of birth-control, should not be condoned nor endorsed by the Libertarian party." Would the party leaders accept that as an official statement?

Might I reccomend that you read a few issues of "Liberty" magazine? You can get it in any major bookstore. While it obsesseses on Ayn Rand, there is some worthwhile reading there. And also, I reccomend you try any of the books of Robert Ringer, one of my political gurus. His "Looking Out for Number One" is a classic.

J.Byron, I agree on what you said about liberal solutions to problems. I've seen Micheal Moore get off on this rant too many times. When people say that pollution is a concern, he automaticly believes that they believe in his solutions, because he didn't ask the person what should be done about it.

The Liberal answer to everything it seems is to throw money and bureaucrats at it until they feel feel better.

These guys are putting you on. There are plenty of libertarians on Free Republic. We all get flamed for something. I've been called a bushbot and told that many former Dems are still liars-just can't break that lying habit (I'm a former Dem). Welcome.
