Black Labs are the best. I don't know what your big dope of a husband has against big dogs.

I like the chocolate, then black, then yeller. But a dumb lab is better than a smart anything else.

"Mrs. Dupa has suggested showing the other two cats the dead guy before I bury him, so theywill know he is gone. We have heard sad stories of pets continually going from room to room looking one of their buddies after he is dead. We were wondering - and still not decided upon - if such a viewing would prevent that. "
I would say let him live his last days at home and when he goes, let the other cats see and smell before you take him away.
I had 3 cats in TN and I gave two away(they hated the new baby) and the other cat did call alot and search over the house for the two that left. Unfortunately, before we moved here (which is a 7 hour drive) we took him to my mom's house and let him stay outside with her cat.. she had a 10ft privacy fence with no holes underneath and he was declawed so we thought he couldn't get out. He disappeared after a couple days. I looked all over for him and never found him. We never did figure out how he got out either.

Kill the surviving cats and solve the problem.

"if we had any storms last night (it did rain a bit), I slept through them. it was the best sleeping night in a while, so I made it my God given task to snore as much as possible, in gratitude, y;know:-) "
I honestly don't remember the last good nights sleep I had. It definitely wasn't in the past year because he baby is only 8 1/2mths old and I had horrible insomnia the last half of pregnancy with her. Before that I had a night job and had trouble sleeping during the day. And before that my son was still waking during the night to eat......*sigh* I'm tired.
