Suggestion for forum setup

I was just wondering if anyone else has a problem with the way the forums are set up? I find it very difficult to navigate Freerepublic. Is there anyone else that would prefer a much more simple setup for this website.

The forum format works OK for me.
I would like a better search engine to avoid the duplication of postings. Sometimes the headline search fails as the prior posting had a different headline (as was in another news source). The search should also allow keywords in articles to be searched.

The FR Search provides searches by title, by keyword, and by poster, though I think you are referring to searching by content.

We used to have a design such as the one you suggested. I like this one better. Perhaps 99% of the forums on the web use the other system. That isn't a compelling reason for us to do so.
If you have an idea, suggest it to the Admin Moderator or JimRob himself.

Agreed. I sign up...stay a day or two and leave out of boredom. (Who wants to have to wade through endless pages of threads?) Come back a few months later...forget user/pass..get new account...stay for a day or two until bored with sorting through page after page. I only checked back in recently because Rush reminded me of FR.
I really have to have nothing to do to come here and go through the pages. I actually get more exciting debate at sites that are predominately inhabited by liberals. What's exciting about "me, too"? (laugh)
I prefer Vbulletin to ezboard. I don't expect the format here to change...but I do suspect I'll be leaving soon for the same reasons I've left before.

What do you think John? - Can you swing that in the next update? Fresh though, not canned, and I don't like those little red cherries in it.
