MSNBC hired him.MSNBC hired Allan Keyes, and when he failed they put Phil Donahue on. Then they tried Savage. Savage is a nut case as are the other two.
MSNBC hires less than the right people. They hire self centered people. Success comes not from saying what the host wants to say, but from saying what the audience wants to hear. Examine at the Hardball host. When Chris was attacking Clinton he had ratings as high as 0.7. Now he sometimes gets 0.1 by trashing dubya. He is not too bright. I think Matthews believes he will do better if he yells louder and interrupts his guests more often. He is clueless.
Everyone they have hired at MSNBC has done what the talent likes to do. The key to success on the air,(GASP GASP) is doing what the audience wants to see and hear.
A successful retail store is built by finding out what people want to buy, then stocking those items and selling them at very competitive prices. For a store to be a success it must carry what people want to buy... at a price people will pay. Everyone sees that in retail
But it is also true in most all other endeavors. Building a successful software company is done by creating the software people need and want to buy. Building a successful political party is done by finding out what the people want, and then running candidates that mirror those wants. It is the same in radio and TV shows .. find out what the viewers want and give it to them.
The key to talk radio or news talk TV is to survey the audience... just as you would a political race. Find out who is watching the news talk shows. Then determine their political views. Do a show that mirrors the largest segment of that audience. You will in not too long a time, gain that audience. That assumes you can appeal to them better than the shows they are currently watching.
If you want to be wanted, then become what others want. If is so simple, yet few people follow it down the road to certain success.
What most air talent does is structure their show based on what appeals to them. Then they just hope the viewers like it. Doing it the other way makes a host a viewer magnet.

Well, what do you know. As a kid, I sat on the Bleachers and watched the MP Panthers whip my Demons on several occasions.
