Hanging together is what got us through X42's era, although they did everything they could to undermine and destroy this country. I am convinced that we will prevail, although the road is going to be long and hard, with many setbacks along the way.

This applies to the War on Terror, but it also applies to our efforts here in politics as well. I see the democrats have already started their smash-mouth style of campaigning, which is showing up here in the posts of pseudo-conservatives and fringe party elements. This is a technique perfected by X42 (another thing we can thank him for) and is all they have left, since so many of their ideas have been discredited, and since they have such an unappealing bunch of candidates. They care not whom they hurt in the process, as long as they can regain power.

People such as this are undeserving to hold office, even for dogcatcher. I will do everything I can to defeat them.

Like Chair says, they are the Criminal party.

To give credit where credit is due, that was actually Molly's phrase. It was an apt description, so I adopted it.

I can't agree more about the media, Bit. (By the way, why did I have to have Julian Phillips inflicted upon me on Fox this morning?)

Saddam released a tape this morning on Al Jazeera (which I still think we should have taken out with Special Forces) urging more attacks on our people and saying he is still in Iraq. It will be quite nice if we catch him soon. That country is big, but it isn't THAT big.

Fox is reporting a tape from Saddam Hussein has been released. Yeah, right. I think I'm going to watch the history channel today instead of the news channels.

I thought the Clinton years exposed for all the nexus between big media and the Dems.Media treated politics like entertainment, and used their power brazenly to set the acceptable parameters of debate on most issuses, CNN most notably with their silly show Inside Politics.Clinton allowed them to drop their biases and be full throated advocates for their progressive agenda...Slick made it possible for them to nod and wink at abuses of power as long as the greater liberal agenda was being served. That's got to be heady stuff, being no longer constrained by fair mindedness, ethics and honesty. How can they ever go back to straight reporting? It is even worse in Canada and the UK with their state run broadcasters who act like de facto arbiters of public policy.

I mentioned to my mother this week about the Iraq children's prison story and she was aghast that she had never read or heard about on cable news or in the papers. How could such a huge story go unnoticed? Just goes to show that news is what editors and producers decide it will be.I first got a flavour of that in the first year of Reagan's term, when he'd tell the truth about the Soviets yet the media acted like it was inflammatory, hysterical nonsense. We all knew the Soviets cheated and lied, just from watching the Olympics, yet the media said it wasn't so.

Now, I just regard these people as any other group that wants my money or time. Are they good at what they do?Would you hire them? Do they have any notable expertise? NOPE!

Thanks for your prayers. The postal interview was really just mounds of paperwork requiring lots of information which I've already provided for them in a previous paperwork session...several times!

Then there was a physical which really was just another long questionnaire and a short interview. Then I got the official letter handed to me telling me when and where to report and a handshake to welcome me to the USPS.

I start a week from Monday with 3 days of orientation. I was so impressed with how well they treated me and how friendly they were. I think I'll like this job.

By the way, why did I have to have Julian Phillips inflicted upon me on Fox this morning?

Because when it comes to talent, he's only FAIR, and compared to the rest of the gang, he provides the BALANCED view...;-)

I keep posting here in cyber space that all bin laden and saddam have to do to convince me they are still on earth, is to have their picture taken with a current edition of the NYT.

Then again, given the NYT's credibility, maybe another newspaper.

Three times I had to give them the complete mailing addresses of every place we've lived for more than a month in the last 5 years. For us that is 9 places including 3 in Singapore. Wow! Writing out all those addresses from a list I'd researched and prepared took a while. And that was only a small part of it.

You bring up a good point: The single distinguishing factor from the Reagan White House was their insisting on communicating the issues (and their side of it) directly to the people.

Jimmah Carter showed how not to use television and press releases (remember the infamous 'Malaise' address? Or the Windfall Profits Tax address?)

In those days, though, the networks would never refuse to cover a White House television address; now, they decide whether to cover it based on the topic and what the newsies think will be said. Still, I am very happy that Bush shows every sign of going directly to the people to get his intentions and message across -- and with cable news, the networks don't have monopoly on access anymore ;-)

Do you think restaurants discriminate against non-drinkers?

This was a lovely restaurant last night.....quite unique....

..I had mentioned, when making the reservation, that it was our anniversary.

...We didn't order cocktails, or a bottle of wine....(our preference)...

..but the couple 4" away from us did.

..They had at least one bottle, maybe more....

..they seemed to get preferential treatment....extra attention to detail, etc., which we couldn't help noticing sitting so close.

The salad was quite nice.....the bread hard & not very tasty...

...the coffee was good, with an added touch of, I believe, real clotted cream in a separate dainty cup.

...My entree was fish....(it was good)....but when he took away my salad plate, I started to grab the knife, and he said..."don't worry, I'll bring you another, we have plenty"...

..well, I laughed...and thought nothing of it.

We were some of their first customers, and the restaurant was only just beginning to fill up, and this waiter was seasoned, had been there for a few years, I gathered.

..Well, he brought my entree, but no knife.

...later, I asked for one, and he seemed chilly that I asked.

...when we ordered dessert, I asked for a fresh cup of decaf.

They brought the coffee, more cream.........and no spoon!

When I asked for a spoon, again the chilly look, and this time he blamed it on the younger man who had refilled my coffee cup!

Meanwhile, schmooozing table 4" away, was getting coddled.

Don't mean to sound whiny......but hubby figures if they think we're not spending big bucks (other than the dinner, which wasn't cheap) on liquor....and therefore, a bigger tip...

..then maybe we become a little invisible.

Hubby tipped well....too well....and yet again, when he brought our doggie box of dessert we couldn't finish, it was just dumped in the box.

The couple next to us ...he opened their box to show them how well he packed it, and said he even put a little more cream in .....

...LOL, this was our first visit....

...and probably our last.

It was a beautiful restaurant....but if one is going to splurge & spend that much on a meal....one expects a bit more service...(and believe me, we are not persnickity customers)...

What's your take on this?

Maybe I am missing something. Have you or anyone else heard ONE black 'elected official' in congress say one thing about the killing in Africa and OUR President W maybe doing something about it? I sure have not. Not saying much for the 'African' American race if you ask me.
