Okay take a breath and stay with me for a second. Let's say there are more than one vacancy announced, Bush will have to throw the Libs a bone. How bout a skanky one like Hillary ... Here is why.
1. She would have to sit through and be Borked by our Senators
2. Think of the questions she would be asked? And the world could watch her evade. ( How did you make $1000 to $100,000. Have you ever Physically assaulted a secret service agent? ... I think you all could add questions you would like to hear her answer.
3. Where else would she be asked in public and be forced to answer some of these questions? God knows the press doesn't. 4. In the end her nomination is roundly and humiliatingly defeated in front of the world.
5.And for some off chance she was confirmed she would be the toiken lib on the bench, neutralized and out of politics and her senate seat chosen by a republican... Gulianni?

Just because someone is nominated to the Supreme Court doesn't mean the nominee has to accept. She would decline because she promised to fulfill her term to the people of New York (plus she may not be that bright, but she certainly isn't that stupid).
To: Miss Marple
Yea but you are not Hillary. She is all about power, This might be a temptation too great not to go for. The quest for power oozes from her pores, I think she would go for it. It would certainly be interesting watching the Media Circus, the witnesses lined up,... oh the magic of that moment.

I think she'd turn it down, and then they'd offer to Bill, and we (America) would be sold down the river on 2 fronts if he got that office, and she got the Oval.

You are forgeting Clinton committed Purjury before the court. He was Disbarred from the supreme court....kinda hard to be a Justice of a court you are disbarred from.

To: Walkingfeather
A Supreme Court appointment is not like being named Pope. There is no requirement that she stay in that position for the rest of her life. If she took it (which I seriously doubt she would) she would use the position to make political speeches cloaked in judicial opinion, vote on the liberal line in every decision, and when she had made a name for herself with her "resistance" to the conservative wing of the court, she would resign and run for president on a platform of "judicial reform."
To: VRWCmember
yes,she would be regulated to a "nut on the left of the bench satus. In the real world she would never be confirmed. especially after the deep frying we'd give her.
To: Miss Marple
what name does she need to make for herself?
To: Walkingfeather
She needs an issue which will grab headlines. Haven't you noticed? Her book tour has fizzled, the "Bush knew" thing didn't work, yammering about more money for Homeland Security didn't help her, and the WMD issue is being ignored by the public.
She needs an issue in which she can be the crusading leader getting national accolades and favorable media attention. This position would give her such an edge.
In my opinion, we would be creating more problems that we wish with this type of appointment. PLUS you are asking President Bush to break his word, which was to appoint strict constructionists to the court.
To: Miss Marple
Good point on your last sentence. It is a fantasyland thought after all.

If Her Highness gives him a Pardon, could the bar reinstate him? I believe they could and possibly would.

Her highness would have to be president first. Not going to happen. She has the ambition but I think the press will turn on her like martha stewart. The media are like sharks if they see someone that is huge and can make them fall all the way down they will do it for the power of it. Just like with Bill. It is that trading places syndrom thing.
To: Walkingfeather
I like your thinking outside the box and at first glance this would put her off course but it is a huge risk, IMO, to put her on the SCOTUS.
Right now her attempt at writing another 'Profiles in Courage' has fallen and can not get up.
Looking ahead I think she knows that Giuliani will take her Senate seat in 2006 so she has to run in 2004 for the WH.
If she stays in the Senate she will be powerless because I see the democrats losing more seats in 2004.
She is in a tough position and putting her on the SC is the wrong move, she is in the process of self-destructing and having Bill around her neck is not helping. Watch for the divorce later this year, then you will know her campaign for the WH has started.

(Clinton brought us Bush)
To: Walkingfeather
I doubt it would ever happen. If he did, I'd be voting for someone else in 04, but I don't see Bush doing that at ALL.
To: Walkingfeather
My original premise was that Hillary (God forbid) actually somehow made it to the oval office. It's called supposition.
And the Press wouldn't turn on her anytime soon. They love her more than that sh** she married.

IIRC that was a temporary disbarrment. I think it was for five years or so. wasn't permanent.

On a positive note, if she made it to the court, at least we wouldn't have to see her in the crusty black pant suit any longer because it would be covered by a crusty black gown.......
