I always use my real name.

I do too, although mine's a lot more common than you might think, so it doesn't mean much.

In general, if you do not use your FR screen name on any other system, it probably is going to be hard to figure out who you really are. But if your screen name is used elsewhere and can be found through Google, all bets are off. Personally, I am not a big believer in the value of privacy. Obviously I am missing something.

Some people find out who we are just by knowing us, some look us up by the things we say, why hide. My name is Jim, I take my screan name from The Book of Mormon, and yes I am one. I beleive in god and freedom. I personaly think that America is the greatest nation on earth, ever. I will stand by my belief and encourage others to do the same. The first time I ever got on the internet was 10 months ago. I am not a computer wiz. I enjoy most of the people I visit with on free republic. You guys stimulate my mind and thoughts.
Thank You

Those of us with sophisticated hackerware can follow the trail of your post right back through the fiber optic cables and co-ax, read your entire hard drive and reprogram your monitor to function as a camera.

Only we looped the sequence back to the point of origin. You have been watching yourself and reading your own hard drive the whole time, saying "Man, that jerk is nuttier than last Christmas's fruitcake!"

I regularly post at work, which is a liberal-loving place.

Well, yes, if there is a good IT staff they can monitor what sites you go to, and, if obsessive, they can monitor everything you do. And given potential for pornographic uses and just plain time-wasting, perhaps they should do some of this. I work for the Department of Veterans Affairs, and not only do I not post at work, I resolved about a year ago to never again even go to www.freerepublic.com from a US government computer or internet provider. This is despite there being a written policy allowing a small amount of personal off-hours internet use, such as during lunch. I would not want to have to explain myself to someone who complained that FR was an anti-Islamic site or whatnot.

The only thing I'd really worry about is if I wanted to run for office some day, and my more intemperate remarks could be used against me. That and the obvious psychopaths who occasionally want to spar here. Luckily I've got guns. Lot and lots of guns. (Oops, there goes my candidacy for mayor of San Francisco).

Heck, I can't even deduce who I am from my posts. Too many ego states, I guess.

I use my real name, and have both suffered and been rewarded for it. It's a toss up.

Funny. I use my real name everywhere else BUT FreeRepublic. No rewards on the outside. Just bunches of spam. Maybe I should use my real name here and a handle everywhere else!

They better not figure out who I am. I am in the Witness Protection Program. (Note to the NSA that reads everything, I am just kidding.)

How many could there be?
