LIPTON ICED TEA DIXIE CHICKS ADS PULLED

Unilever Says It Will Continue Running Current Spots June 19, 2003 QwikFIND ID: AAO77M By Hillary Chura

BOSTON (AdAge.com) -- An ad for Lipton Iced Tea that features the Dixie Chicks is being pulled, according to people familiar with the situation. The country music group's lead singer in March during a concert was made comments critical of President Bush in the days leading up to the country's war with Iraq.

No comment A spokeswoman for Unilever, which jointly markets Lipton with PepsiCo in the Pepsi-Lipton Tea Partnership, would not comment on why the Dixie Chicks ad is not running but said, "Lipton has a number of different advertising and promotional plans in the works and has opted for now to run the commercials that currently are on air."

It's uncertain when or if the ad will run. The ads were to have debuted in May to coincide with the group's first world tour in three years.

Three current 30-second spots, which focus on getting back to a healthy way of living, started running in May in the slots designated for the Dixie Chicks ad, according to one person familiar with the situation. The person said the ads were rushed into production after comments made by Natalie Maines, the group's lead singer, caused a furor among some country music fans.

Texas dustup In a concert in England just prior to the start of the war in Iraq, Ms. Maines told the crowd: "Just so you know, we're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas." The group is also from Texas. Radio stations organized boycotts, and Ms. Maine's later issued an apology

J. Walter Thompson Co., New York, produced the Dixie Chicks ads as well as those on air now. The decision not to run the ad has had no effect on the Lipton's sponsorship of the Grammy-winning group's "Top of the World Tour." The plan was for the tour was to offer Lipton a portable integrated marketing opportunity that would have included an associated Lipton Iced Tea TV spot.

PepsiCo and JWT, part of WPP Group, did not return calls for comment.

Lipton Iced Tea spent $2.9 million in measured media last year, according to TNS Media Intelligence/ CMR.

I am a bit familiar with the Bible and have to agree with you. Jesus is merciful to those who have good hearts...they may do stupid things, but they have good hearts. An example of this in the Bible is David. That boy was an accomplice to murder and a bit of a ladies man. Why did God love him so much? Because although he did stupid things, he had a willing and good heart. He was loyal to God even though he did some very very dumb things.
Jesus is not merciful with those that are rotten to the core and like being that way. If God is just about peace as Eustace says, then why is there a hell?

Trust me, Saddam and his regime were over due for a bit of vengeance. Now they are living it. But why am I telling you this? Maybe I should direct to Eustace.

Eustace, I want you to count how many time God has either had the Israelites wipe out entire villages and tribes, or let those tribes and villages wipe out the Israelites for being wicked. You can get back to me. I know it takes you a day or two to answer.

God punishes those that do not have good hearts, bring about others pain, and have no conscience about their actions or rebellion. He punishes them with devastating fury. I am not sure what book you are reading.

God also says to honor those political leaders that are placed over you...especially if they are God fearing people. Bush is a bit more God fearing than Clinton, no? So wouldn't the Dixie Chicks comments go completely against Gods word's? They bad mouthed their leader who obviously is a devoutly religious man...

Congress may not establish a religion , but they sure as hell control what churches can say.

Give unto Caesar

America is not very far from China in respect to government control.

1. If they don't like what you say they can blow you out of the sky or burn you alive with your children.

2. If they don't like what you say they can put you in a mental institution or prison for as long as they like.

3. If they don't like what you say they can put pressure on you through the irs.

4. If they don't like what you say they can label you like Scott Ritter and there will be plenty of idiots to blow their horn , so in their minds they can sound intelligent.

5. If they don't like what you say they can label you a "terrorist" and detain you without due process.

Anyone who refers to our Constitution or is willing to defend our Constitution against the federal government or the UN is considered a "terrorist".

Now correct me if I'm wrong , haven't we lost freedom's in order to stop terrorism , no I mean in order to destroy WMD ( weapons of mass destruction ), no now I got it , in order to free the Iraqi people.

The elites in this country sold the materials to Russia that were turned into weapons and sold to North Vietnam and used to kill over 58,000 American's.

We don't matter and never have , the only thing that is important is that the illusion of freedom is kept up.

Because if American's , Red , White , Black , Yellow , tan , blue , pink or whatever , ever figured out that we are all after the samething , the Rights of man , a lot of aristocrats would pay for their lies.

That just shows your ignorance about Jesus.

WE are responsible for what's going on in the world , not Jesus.

We have never followed His lead and are paying the price.

If you lay down the "Law" to your children and they refuse to follow it , how are you responsible?

You talk about the innocent Iraqi's who died at the hands of Saddam , who we supplied with chemical weapons , but what about the innocent Iraqi's that America's corporate mercenaries have killed?

What , it's not our fault if the government says we must do it , we are only following orders so there are no innocents.

There's not a shred of evidence linking Saddam with Bin Laden , but history shows our own government was involved ( maybe not directly )with the sinking of the Lusitainia and the attack on Pearl Harbor , because it served a purpose.

And the first attack on the towers was orchestrated with the help of our fbi , whose only real job is to protect the governemnt in power.

So what gives you the right to kill innocent people and say it's okay , because my Jesus has never said murder is okay.

As far as "nice , nice " Christian's , I don't believe my Father in Heaven put me here to suffer at the hands of His enemies.

I will turn my cheek to another Christian , but will gladly expose and slay His enemies.

What do you believe?

Is life a trip where nothing you do matters.

Did we grow from ocean scum?

Everything you can get away with is okay.

If I'm doing the killing it's okay.

You can try all you like but you can't capsulize LIFE , and you can't blame Jesus for our lack of morals.

To me the difference is between the Old and New Testament.

At one time God did appoint our government and we were supposed to support and pray for it. It was a Holy government.

But when Jesus opened Heaven to all of us , He gave us free will. How can you hold Jesus responsible for our government when most of America votes for what's popular , regardless of morals.

I want you to count how many times Christ has said to kill anyone.

And be careful electing yourself as the one , who decides who , who deserves vengence..

What's wrong kid? Did I hit a sensitive note?! :^D

Was it the assertion of you being a some troglodyte that rides on the short bus that got to you.

Or was it the thing about you being a dateless loser that frequents an internet message board to vie for the attention in which you never recieved from you family, due to the fact that they find you to be just as much of an annoying assclown as I do.

Have a nice day. . .

Oh geesh I just read how truly ignorant you are. You should go to the SIPRI website and see who's responsible for Iraq's WMD before blameing the US. Jackass.

Did "your Jesus" say it is ok to lie about everything because DU said to do it? I don't think so.

Your lies disgust me.

Your contempt for American ideals disgusts me.

Your idiotic comments disgust me.

Your proTerrorist stance disgusts me.

As a matter of fact, I can't think of anything about you that doesn't disgust me.

The Christian church is not a theocratic nation (Jesus said, "My kingdom is not of this world; otherwise, my servants would fight"), but Christians ideally should live within national boundaries to seek the well-being of that nation. Sometimes, they may be called upon to defend that nation's existence (or that of another vulnerable nation) against an aggressor's attack. Contrary to what many believe, Jesus' words about "turning the other cheek" after someone hits you on the right cheek are dealing with personal insults, not with acts of violence or force. Rather, Jesus said, "When insulted, be willing to take another insult." Assuming that persons in Jesus' time were generally right-handed, a hit on the right cheek is a back-handed slap, which even today in the Middle East expresses a gross insult. This idea of a slap as an insult is seen in Lamentations 3:30: "Let him give his cheek to the smiter and be filled with insults." This slap would be roughly equivalent to spitting in someone's face in our society.

Jesus is not saying, "Don't defend yourself when you are attacked" or "Don't help a woman who is being raped" or "Don't defend your country when it is being attacked." He is not negating the judicial principle of an "eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth"; he speaks against the abuse of that judicial principle to justify personal retaliation or vengeance.

http://www.everystudent.com/wires/justwar.html

In the end you DO NOT ALLOW an evil dictator to continue killing. Saddam should have been stopped many years ago. We literrally could have saved hundreds of thousands if not millions of lives!

I want you to count how many times Christ has said to kill anyone.

I want you to tell me where Jesus said we should let dictators MURDER people. I want you to tell me where He said to leave them to their wickedness. After you come to your senses, I want you to tell me how we remove somebody with a million man army without using force.

Jesus allows us to have common sense. We have a Christian and moral obligation to go to war to stop murder if we cannot do it any other way. We have a moral obligation to defend our nation. We have a moral obligation to stick our noses in others business and ensure that men, women and children have the human rights that GOD HAS GIVEN THEM!

There is no Old Testament and New Testament. There is a Bible which was written by 40 authors and 66 books. It is to be taken as a whole. Your point of view lends itself to throwing out the Ten Commandments. After all, it is Old Testament. Jesus said "Love God with all your heart and your neighbor as yourself." (paraphrase) Does that mean that adultery is okay as long as you love God and your neighbor? I hope you say no. Jesus fullfilled the law...He did not change it.

And be careful electing yourself as the one , who decides who , who deserves vengence..

I did not elect myself to determine who deserves vengeance! God elected me and you and everyone else to protect the innocent, defend out beliefs and our nation, and to try and bring a Godly peace to the planet. Now, you and I both know what the end result of everything is...right there in the book, but that doesn't mean that we go sunbathe until God decides to come down here and do a little ass whipping of His own. Open your eyes, your ears, and your brain.

*SIGH*

SIPRI = Stockholm International Peace Research Institute. Is an independent organization which tracks proliferaion of of weapons and arms trade amongest all nation. Ranging from conventional weaponary up to WMD.

SIPRI's website clearly shows that any chemical, biological, or nuclear weapons programs in which Saddam's regime obtained were mostly likely the contribution of countries like Germany and France and far less likely to be from contributions of America.
