Interesting observation. I have never screamed as loud as some people about grandma-types, young blondes, etc. being searched. It has seemed inevitable to me that if they only singled out young mid-eastern-looking males that soon the terrorists would find people of different types who were in sympathy with them. I think that the young mid-eastern guys should get the majority of the attention but that others should also be searched, randomly.

I haven't flown since 9/11 so can't speak from personal experience but from what I've read on FR, it sounds like the most likely candidates get the red carpet treatment and others are put under the microscope ..... which seems like a waste of resources. But they didn't ask for my opinion ..... *grins*
