Discussion About Feminism - Vanity

Posted on 06/13/2003 7:21:36 PM PDT by Cathryn Crawford

A few questions about the feminist ideology -

First, exactly what is the feminist ideology?

Does it degrade women?

If so, how does it degrade women?

How (if at all) is it unfair in its treatment of men?

Michigander. Michigander. It works!

Shoot as many birds as you can, okay? On my behalf.

I noticed. You know that I'm underage and as such would never drink alcohol, right? Am I right? Who's with me? Hello?

Good Mornin' Darlin'Texan!

You're right... you would never drink alcohol... not this early in the morning!

Just so you know... Our turkeys taste better than the ones in Michigan! (Heh-heh-heh... but they got the Nuge!)

Dan... Are you an UPer? My first base was at KI Sawyer, Marquette, Michigan. Loved the place.

If you're ever in Wisconsin I'll show you some nice places to hunt grouse.

I can't add any more than was said here about feminism.

I must tell you though that my initial reaction over the years has been one of bemusement. I eventually became cynical as I watched the NOW gang become more liberal in their thinking, and their actions. I believe they doomed themselves to the ash heap of history when they continued to defend Clinton, and all the garbage he did to women.

Feminism started off in the 60's (My impressions now...) to promote equal pay for equal work. Sounds good, and I think most people would agree with that idea. But when they started going into reproductive rights they lost me forever.

We don't have the right to say we have total control over our bodies. (If we did then we would never be sick... we would never die.) To decide to terminate life inside the womb should come from God, not from man. I know its a theological argument, but I sure feel as though the feminist movement did more to perpetuate that type of thinking more than any other group in the United States.

How many millions of abortions later, and I am sure the group feels very proud of their accomplishment. (I am speaking of NOW, or NAG...) A sad piece of history that has thwarted the sanctity of life for convenience. yes... yes... I know... there are exceptions... and I agree...but in many ways the pro-choice decision is one of selfishness. It pits the rights of the woman above all, even above the laws of God.

With the advent of conservative Feminists groups it is clear that the NOW gang has lost much of its steam. They have destroyed whatever credibility they might have achieved, and are now going to be left by the wayside as a corrupt group.

Men and women will always be different. There is no denying that fact. But then that should be celebrated, not scorned.

I hope this helps!

"When you hear the word feminism what do you think?"

This is a tougher question than would first appear to be the case. After all, how could a man be against a woman's advancement in the world based on her merit?

But in point of fact, the experience of most of us (men) in actual contact with actual feminists, has been one of unrelenting hostility toward us based on nothing more than the fact of our maleness.

And so most normal men think (or rather feel) in the presence of a real (not fictional) feminist, uh oh, when does the next gratuitous putdown come? And since hostility evinces counter hostility in people who have not been completely brainwashed, the reaction of most men to the word feminism is negative.

I saw a bumper sticker recently that said: "Feminism -- the radical notion that women are people."

In a nutshell, it is a noble goal which has been hijacked. I compare it to the civil rights movement. Obviously, almost everybody wants to see equality for the races, but the majority in this country have a negative opinion of the NAACP. Same with the NOW hags. They're their own worst enemies.

Feminism is one of those ideas which radicals have appropriated in order to garner support for ideas which otherwise would be rejected. There is a pattern to this technique.

  1. Find a topic that can be defined in terms of fairness and liberty, particularly for an identifiable demographic group. (The "goals.")
  2. Associate that topic with what you want to do. )The "specifics.") The telltale signature here is the word 'by'.
  3. Demagogue anyone who opposes what you want to do (the specifics) as being against fairness and liberty, and against the particular demographic group (the goals).

This is a powerful pattern that is difficult to defeat, due to the fact that if the first step (the definition phase) is done properly, an unpopular idea (that which is in step two) can co-opt the support of a very popular one.

Following the pattern, radicals created feminism.

  1. It is about fairness and equality, removing prejudice, and empowering women. Who could possibly oppose that?
  2. The radicals have worked the media and politicians to where often feminism means not just removing prejudice and empowering women, but by doing so in particular ways, such as equal pay laws, legalized abortion on demand, and destroying traditional family roles.
  3. The radicals, and those under their sway, demagogue anyone who opposes abortion as being against women, anyone who opposes equal pay laws as wanting to hold women down, and anyone who realizes that society benefits when children are not raised by day care centers wants to keep women barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen.

When it comes to feminism, I support nearly all of the "goals". I oppose nearly all of the "specifics".
