Well, the a/c unit is temporarily fixed. It needs a new coil, which is on order, as the current one is leaking freon. The repair folks did recharge the system so we can have cold air for a few days until the new part arrives.

Well, that's pretty good news! With all the rain you have been having, the dampness in a house without air is pretty miserable.

Thunderstorms predicted here again today.

Advice please MM. I want to start putting my pictures in storage. I think that I should wrap them in saran wrap first being that I have a big roll used for commercial packing. Will this make them sweat? They are pictures of my departed wife and I do not want anything happen to them for sure.

Chair, I have a question for the ex military folks (female type ladies) who sought houses to live in off base when they looked for one, just want did you look for in a rental house. I have listed mine with two basses (AF & SeaBee) for rent. I was thinking of renting it fully furnished, including dishes, TV's silverware, the works. Please advise me, I need all the help I can get.

With all the rain you have been having, the dampness in a house without air is pretty miserable.

It wasn't that damp at all. Probably because "the cottage" is rather large, it actually has a dedicated a/c unit for each floor. It was the upper floor, with the bedrooms, that had the a/c failure. By running the a/c unit on the main floor constantly, that kept the air relatively dry on that level. As the air warms on the first floor, it rises in the center staircase, much like a chimney, so it dries out even more.

But 90 degrees - which is what it reached upstairs yesterday before they did the temporary fix (and was the reason I wasn't here - I turned off the computers to prevent them from overheating) - is pretty darn uncomfortable, humid air or no.

Toby,

When I was in the service, in the 70's, there was always a waiting list for base housing. Don't know if it's changed, but married couples were always looking for someplace to rent until something opened up.

Most couples waiting were enlisted, and younger. You normally couldn't find better people to rent.

Great picture, Lysie! (I too miss Mozie!)

Good Morning.

Got a call yesterday afternoon from daughter Carolyn, who is in France. (We were gone, but heard her message on the answering machine. :))

She sounds wonderful, and appears to be in great spirits.

She visited Normandy Beach yesterday, so I am willing to bet she was anxious to tell us all about it!

Do not wrap them in plastic! Especially, in your part of the country, that will promote sweating and mold or mildew.

Photographs and paintings should be stored in a climate-controlled environment. Photographs should be wrapped in acid-free paper. Let me see if I can find you an on-line set of directions.

America – The Right Way!!
The Daily Update – June 13, 2003

REMEMBER THE TRADE CENTER!!

AMERICA’S WAR ON TERROR – Day 641

The news as reported in The Washington Times:

[Note – All links go to The Washington Times’ website.]

1. Allied forces in Iraq battled remaining Saddam loyalists and attacked a terrorist camp, killing 70.

[The longer the enemy keeps up this low-level resistance, the longer we have to stay, because the longer it will take to get things back to normal.]

Allies battle Saddam loyalists, terrorist camp

2. An Israeli attack kills a Hamas fugitive and six other people. Hamas vows a finish fight.

[Oh, goody.]

Israel kills Hamas fugitive, 6 others

3. Baghdad is trying to get back to normal, whatever “normal” really is.

[Patience. It took Saddam twenty or so years to screw up his country. It won’t get fixed in a hurry.]

Baghdad struggles to get back to normal

4. Most Republicans in the House and Senate are backing a new prescription drug benefit as part of a $400 thousand million overhaul of Medicare.

[It is NOT an “entitlement,” it IS WELFARE! Let’s be precise about terminology here.]

GOP embraces plan for drug entitlement

5. Observance of “Gay Pride Month” by Federal agencies is becoming rare under President Bush.

[OUTSTANDING!!!!!!]

'Gay pride' observance wanes in Bush era

6. House Republicans have passed a measure that would guarantee the $1,000-per-child tax credit would continue through at least the year 2010.

[That’s good news.]

House Republicans pass $1,000-per-child tax credit

7. A Washington, DC, superior court judge says red light cameras are Constitutional, and that their use to promote public safety outweighs any privacy concerns.

[What planet is she from? In her ruling, she made the comment that it was all right for the city to ticket the owner of a car that runs a red light, regardless of whether the owner was actually driving or not, because parking tickets are issued that way. What illogic. A parked car doesn’t contain any individual, while a moving car is operated by one. That is why running a red light is a MOVING violation. I hope the plaintiffs appeal. This is an abomination of a ruling.]

Judge OKs camera tickets

8. The People’s Republic of Maryland has passed a law that bans insurance companies from reducing rates for those who are good credit risks, while lowering rates for those who are poor credit risks—all of this the outcome of a law that now bans credit scoring for insurance policies.

[Yep – another brilliant move on the part of Maryland to whack the middle class.]

Maryland ban on credit scores raises home insurance

We shall not rest until we have cut a swath 60-miles wide through the entire left - taking all that is before us with us as we go. We shall leave nothing to the enemy that may be of value to him. We shall show him that he may count on nothing and will be able to keep nothing, not his spirit, not his soul, not that upon which he shall feed. We shall not cease until the moment we have rent through their entire land and have arrived at the sea, with our glorious victory upon us.
