Excuse me Pupster... what are staddle stones? Are they the same as hitching posts, or gate stones? There is a set in the front yard too..and they all have rusted metal rings and hings..

Gran, staddle stones are those mushroom shaped things on which farmers put beams with which to hold grain up off the ground and safe from vermin. Those posts you have look like the bases which held upside down saucer shaped stones. Appearance of the whole thing was that of a mushroom.
