If anyone cares....

Til yesterday, I was a huge admirer of Sammy Sosa. Thought I'd post a quick update...

In his first game after the great cork incident, Sosa is 0 for 3 with 3 strikeouts, with the Cubbies down 5-1 in the eighth.

You thought wrong....

He started tonight, and obviously is completely ineffective.

Ineffective might be the smallest of his looming problems. I suspect all his numbers are suspect, pending Selig's Pronouncement.

My wife is from Mexico and I can tell you, in Latin America and the Carribean, Sosa is a god -- not just for his baseball but for his personality. He is(was) viewed as the perfect latin gentleman -- takes care of his Mom and his family, soft spoken, rich as all get out, gives back to his home and his new adopted city.

Reaction in that quarter is sadness to the point of tears.

What irony that Miss Universe is from thw DR.

That's why I liked him... he was always very nice, conducted himself well in public, in interviews, and spent HUGE amounts of money on programs to help folks in his homeland, kind of a modern-day Clemente. In addition to that, by all appearances, a HELL of a ballplayer, and a guy who hustled on the field... I saw a report that all his other bats turned up clean, but still, this is a sad situation.

Guess it doesn't matter if a bat is corked when the batter strikes out ;-)
