The popular country trio yesterday became the latest celebrities to cancel a Toronto appearance because of concerns over SARS.
The Chicks postponed their sold-out June 12 show at the Air Canada Centre until Aug. 6. Ticket holders can use their ducats for the rescheduled show or turn them in for a full refund at point of purchase.
The show was put over because of "concerns about the risk of tour personnel facing quarantine as a result of Toronto's current SARS situation," Sony Music Canada said in a release.

Sales must have really tanked, even Madonna's megabomb and Shania's weak album are doing better on the charts this week.

Did anyone see Fox & Friends this morning on Fox News? I caught the ending of a story regarding a new stupid statement by Natalie Maines.
Does anyone know the details? What I caught was a rehash of the "FUTK" T-shirt story. Didn't understand that they may be talking about something new.

From the Cleveland Plain Dealer:
John Soeder
Plain Dealer Pop Music Critic
The Dixie Chicks flew the coop last night.
The superstar country trio called off a sold-out concert at Gund Arena because lead singer Natalie Maines was ill with a throat ailment.
The show has been rescheduled for 7:30 p.m. June 11. Tickets for yesterday's show will be honored. Refunds are available at the point of purchase.
A capacity crowd of 19,000 fans was expected for last night's concert. Many waited more than an hour in long lines stretching around the arena until the postponement was announced at 7:15 p.m., 15 minutes before showtime.
The Dixie Chicks waited until a physician had seen Maines before it was decided they would not perform, said Richard Coble, the band's tour manager.
"The girls want to express their deepest apologies," Coble said.
More feathers were ruffled when fans learned parking lots and garages refused to issue refunds. Some concertgoers had paid as much as $20 to park.
"We're very unhappy," said Chris Mahovlic, 31, of Lyndhurst. He said he had been looking forward to the concert along with his girlfriend and her sister.
At first, fans were not sure why the show was called off.
"We heard all kinds of rumors," Mahovlic said. "A uniformed Cleveland police officer said there had been a bomb threat. Another policeman said one of the Dixie Chicks didn't show up."
The Dixie Chicks found themselves embroiled in controversy after a March 10 concert in London, when Maines said the group was "ashamed" President Bush was from the band's home state of Texas. The group's album sales plunged and some radio stations dropped the Dixie Chicks from their playlists.
"This is just another strike against them," Mahovlic said.

I turn the dial everytime I hear a song by that group. It's only a matter of time before they fall. Getting booed by their country musician peers at the CMA show on national TV is not a good omen. Neither is having their records pulled from the jukboxes in our local biker bars [about a half-dozen of 'em, last time I checked hereabouts] and having the local karaoke DJs pull their tunes off their playlists.
No biggie, Nashville can use a few more good-looking waitresses at the outlying truck stops.

Oh, she can likely find work at a truck stop too. Just not as a waitress....
I doubt she'd be as popular as some of the other, better known girls though. She wouldn't be the big star anymore, just another rookie working girl.

The Nashville industry is known for closing the doors to people they don't cotton to. Serves 'em right. Nashville also closes its doors REAL quick to thse who bring contempt or disrepute on C&W music itself, beyond the occasional badboy blowup or nasty divorce. The Nazi Chicks may start finding doors closing on them while they're still standing in the doorways. Hard.
The thing is, they had a chance to save themselves and didn't take it. Now their only option may be to quit the Nashville scene and take up residence on the Left Coast, where their undeserved *Dixie* monicker may not play too well.

FWIW, as a Californian, I am ashamed those Bi&^ches are female and holding US passports. Ain't nothing Dixie about the French hens!

Are you saying that they're not really from Texas? That Natalie's father isn't 'Mr. Texas Music'?

Hey...I thought it was the "DITZY Chicks!"
Is this the same band ?
