I thought the Justin wanna-be "Cory" that got thrown off for lying about his police record was being groomed for the winners circle early on. Those judges were fawning over that guy. I figure they needed a black male to balance the white female winner last year and calm the cries of racism last year when Tamyra was voted off. Ruben's stock went up when that guy was thrown off. I"m not really a fan of Ruben, but he's a much better singer and performer than Cory Clark, imho. I had Tamyra picked to win last time- I've always that that she "threw" the competition for some reason.

I'm not exactly sure, all I remember was he was pretty negative about Ruben. I think I remember where I read it. Let me go find it and be right back.

Yes, they did. I think it's for next week, but I could be wrong.

Yup, that's the gist of what he said. I saw Josh on the CBS morning show yesterday. When asked who he thought would win, he said he thought Clay SHOULD win. But he also essentially said he thought Ruben would win because the publicity machine is already in high gear for him. In other words, Josh hinted that it's fixed for Ruben.

Checking in. New Enterprise on at 7, so I will only be able to flip over until 8.
To: pbear8
Yeah, I saw that too. Josh likened the competition to that of an athlete being groomed for the Heissman Trophy. Sports writers hype one guy over other qualified athletes, the guy wins and then is never heard from again in the pro's. It wasn't exactly said as a put down. He thought Clay had the better voice but Ruben was being heavily promoted by all involved.
To: Wolfstar
Interesting observation from the inside. Someone else noted that the judges had toned down their vociferous support of Ruben. I wonder if they were told to.

I don't mean to sound too naive here, but could it that the judges have toned down their support for Ruben because Ruben just hasn't been that good that last couple of times out? He just seems kind of tired.
To: TexasBarak
I just started watching last week...but last night I thought that Clay was just awful, Ruben was average and Kim had a real presence. I have a friend at work who's a real fan of the show and she and her husband both think I'm nuts and love Clay...but geez. I never heard a worse rendidtion of Vincent or Mack the Knife ( he really over-vocalized on that one) and the arrangement for Unchained Melody was awful.

I'll have to wait and check in on the thread later. Gonna watch it time-delayed via TiVo and sure don't want to bounce in here and have it spoiled.
Glad it's here, though.

I haven't seen them tone it down. In fact, Simon commented last night that he not only felt that the competition would not be the same without Ruben, but the final will not be the same if Ruben is not in it.
To: LikeLight
I bet they are all tired and probably fighting colds (Zycam plug) by now. Lots of people noticed that Ruben looked fatigued late last night. I wonder how he looks tonight. I am PDT so you EDT guys will have to carry this thread.

Clay should have been a bit more restrained doing Unchained Melody last night. He tried a few too many verbal acrobatics, and it made the song worse, not better, and caused the surprising and impressive high note he nailed get lost in the shuffle.

Okay, I found it. It was on the "Today Show".
I just copy and paste it cuz I have to run and watch the show now.........
He thinks that Ruben will win but that Clay is the better singer and has worked hard for it. He actually said that he thought Ruben was getting a lot of press and the producers were pushing him, but that in the end he might not be able to live up to the hype. He said Ruben is good, but he's afraid the show is making more out of him that he might be able to deliver.
He said that he thought Kim would be going this week and that the finals would literally be a David vs. Goliath type of thing. Well, okay, Matt said David vs. Goliath, but Josh agreed.........
There ya go. Okay. Hope teddy bear is gone tonite!!
