We will not tire, we will not falter, and we will not fail!
Good morning!! Do not let the victims of the attacks on New York and Washington, nor the brave members of our Nation's military who have given their lives to protect our freedom, die in vain!!
Ten Iraqis have filed a complaint in a Belgian court accusing Gen. Franks of war crimes in Iraq. Belgium has a law that allows their courts to try war crimes committed by anyone anywhere in the world - "universal jurisdiction" as it is called by some. The United States is warning Belgium if the case is taken up it will have serious diplomatic repercussions.
Heard much from the Hollywild left lately? Probably not. Most of the anti-war stars have decided to beat a solid retreat in the face of a lightning quick war with broad support across the country.
The Unitd States is considering moving its main mid-east air command center from Saudi Arabia to Qatar.
And today is, or was, Saddam's birthday.
For AMERICA - The Right Way, I remain yours in the Cause, the Chairman.

I left out a word in my post...they DO have recognizable themes or melodies, although no words.
I amgetting the feeling that it bothers you that I don't like jazz. It is a personal preference, like broccoli...nothing more.

Can I tell you who I like....Manheim Steamroller..

I like some of their stuff, although not all. My husband loves their Christmad albums.
To: Miss Marple
Grrr. CHRISTMAS albums!

As I first posted, I believe that you mistook improvisational jazz for free jazz. I've stated that I'm not a fan of free jazz and the reasons you gave for not liking jazz fit my reasons for not like free jazz completely.
But if you're going to try to give reasons for not liking something, be accurate. Improvisational jazz most certainly does have recognizable melodies and themes so you really have no reason there for saying that.
You know what? I live in a world of people that don't like jazz. Doesn't bother me a bit. But strong opinions about it that are full of ignorance are a different matter. If it's like broccoli and just a matter of taste, no reason is necessary and a made-up reason (e.g., because I don't like red fruit) doesn't go over very well.

Thank you for the lecture. I will now depart and find something else to do for a while.
To: Miss Marple
Please don't be that way, MM. Please.

Hey Jim: A siren would do me no good -- she can't hear it anyway, so I would just be driving myself nuts...;-)

Way to go, ya scared her right off!!!!
Miss Marple, I used to have the same opinion as you about opera (and I have a musical background), until I saw Amadeus. Seeing how The Marriage of Figaro was rehearsed and how Don Giovanni was Mozart's magnum opus made me appreciate it -- but I didn't say like it...;-)

(And you simply MUST see The Red Violin if you haven't seen it yet -- it'll take your breath away (even with subtitle).
As for Jazz, I am partial to Maynard Ferguson, Herbie Hancock and Bob James...)

I am not scared off. I am simply avoiding what could be a very unpleasant confrontation, all because I don't like jazz. Unlike some people, I have learned that not everything I think should be posted.
I like some of the musical themes of opera. I just don't like those which I cannot understand if there is no English translation, not being fluent in French, Italian, or German.
To: Miss Marple
I'll bet you could lecture us ALL on furniture...;-)

Jim, that was meant as a COMPLIMENT, coming from one of the worst offenders from the Chrome and Glass Age, then the Leather Period, then the Conversation Pit Eon....;-)

Furniture, antiques, etiquette, raising dogs, raising cats, gardening, English literature, geology, and a lot of other things. I do not expect people to share my taste.
After all, while watching a video of "Henry V" I was feeding Cheetos to my coonhound. Who else has THAT combination?
That's enough. I will be quiet for a while.

See? It's a personal strength to admit you were WRONG, HORRIBLY WRONG....
But it begs the question: If the sectional sofa had had Queen Anne feet, would that make it OK????
