AMERICA - The Right Way!! (Day 828) [Remember the Trade Center!!]
Various News Sources and FReepers | April 28, 2003 | All of Us

Posted on 04/28/2003 4:16:10 AM PDT by Chairman_December_19th_Society

We will not tire, we will not falter, and we will not fail!

Good morning!! Do not let the victims of the attacks on New York and Washington, nor the brave members of our Nation's military who have given their lives to protect our freedom, die in vain!!

Ten Iraqis have filed a complaint in a Belgian court accusing Gen. Franks of war crimes in Iraq. Belgium has a law that allows their courts to try war crimes committed by anyone anywhere in the world - "universal jurisdiction" as it is called by some. The United States is warning Belgium if the case is taken up it will have serious diplomatic repercussions.

Heard much from the Hollywild left lately? Probably not. Most of the anti-war stars have decided to beat a solid retreat in the face of a lightning quick war with broad support across the country.

The Unitd States is considering moving its main mid-east air command center from Saudi Arabia to Qatar.

And today is, or was, Saddam's birthday.

For AMERICA - The Right Way, I remain yours in the Cause, the Chairman.

I see this audio book as an unexpected benefit. Most of us have heard her enough to know how annoying her voice is.

However, many liberals don't watch C-SPAN. They will get this audio book, and after about half an hour they will be sick of her. HA!

Dog, watch out, they are starting to resurface.

Disruptors are showing up as well. Be careful out there.

Greetings all. The bratling turns 15 today. Supper will be homemade chicken noodle soup with real egg noodles. Dessert will be bratling's favorite, strawberry crepes.

Rat talking points for the week:

1. We have squandered our good will overseas.
2. Afghanistan is falling apart.
3. Tax cuts are a risky scheme.
Repeat until the DNC faxes new themes.

A letter to the editor had your first two points in it, Miss Marple. I immediately fired off a letter enumerating everything that was being done in Afghanistan by the US military, and the US. I do believe that it is a BIG talking point. (They did end up publishing my letter too. I'm famous. :)

Oh, there are still flame wars going on, just not as many. Seems the same people stir up the pot all the time.

WARNING!!! Picture of Senator Pantsuits ahead. (If I worked in the public eye like she does, I'd make sure to look halfway decent before I left the house.) This is the photo accompaying an article about her new book. So attractive.

I have a friend ~~ normally sane ~~ who absolutely loves 97! We never discuss it because I'd probably lose my temper and give her one across the chops, BUT if this audio book really does materialize, I am going to purchase it as a birthday present for my friend. Maybe having to endure a couple of hours of that ugly voice will give her a clue!

BigWaveBetty said that Hillary!'s makeup people probably were paid hazardous duty pay to make up and airbrush the photo that is on Hillary!'s book. Guess that goes to show that makeup, good lighting, and a good photographer can make anyone look good.

I don't like any music without a recognizable melody, words I can distinguish, and a definite rhythm.

Opera is right out with you, I can tell. Brahms, Beethoven, Mozart, Bach....none of them had recognizable words either.

It's hard being a philistine, isn't it?

Oh, I still think I was right that you confused free jazz and improvisational jazz. Although usually in improvisational jazz there are no words at all, it does have a definite rhythm and a recognizable melody.

I didn't like jazz hardly at all, until I attended a music event a couple of years ago. It was an evening of "Music through the ages." Very well done, and the jazz part was superb. They did improvisational jazz, and it was marvelous.

Pbbbt! I don't much care for opera unless they are printing the words so I can understand them.

Brahms, Beethoven, and such have NO words, and recognizable melodies or themes.

If you like jazz, that is fine. I don't.

I don't much care for classical music, but I know it's because I never learned to appreciate it. I would never deny the genius behind classical music just because its full meaning is not accessible to me.

I didn't care much for jazz until I started to pay attention to the passion with which its fans spoke of it. That convinced me that there was something worth learning to appreciate there and I began to listen and even took a course in it.

Now I am convinced, as many people around the world are, that jazz is one of the greatest gifts that America has given to the world. Any American who hasn't learned to appreciate the likes of Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker, Louis Armstrong, Dizzy Gillespie and many, many others is, in my opinion, an incomplete America.

But heck, we're all lacking in some way or another so we're all incomplete.

Wait a minute. Jazz doesn't have recognizable melodies? My 7-year-old can pick out John Coltrane playing Favorite Things and Miles Davis playing Pinocchio. What exactly are you trying to say?

Apparently I misunderstood. You said that classical music has no recognizable themes or melodies. Now I'm extra confused because I thought that was your reason for not liking jazz.
