The original poster has gotten awful quiet....

Basically.

Amen. And this "church-going girl" chose this creep for a bf.
To: retrokitten
Yes. I am trying to fill the my comments page so she will eventually speak, but oh well.

I know your intentions are good, but unfortunately, 1stFreedom did not think about the rather "inflammatory" language she used to communicate the rather novel idea of controlling 20yr. olds ; ) Check out post 52 for a blunt, but not ugly reply... I have a son and a daughter in their teens, and I KNOW that in general, many young people today think of sex in a very CARELESS way. Hard to imagine, ain't it, after all the sex ed in the schools ; )
To: rwfromkansas
"Uh no. She chose to date a boy who would have sex. She chose to NOT date someone who was a strong Christian."
Oddly enough, Christian teens also seem to manage to have sex with each other. You can say, I suppose, that they aren't _really_ Christians, but I'll wager there are teens in your church who are having sex with each other.
It's a primal urge. In the not-too-distant past, people got married and had children in their early teens. No more, of course, but the urges are the same. Kids have sex with each other because they are designed to do so.
Christians or not.

I pretty much lost it on this thread myself. I am 20 myself and don't have any problem controlling myself in that way. I know plenty of guys that are the same way. So it really pisses me off when adults act like us young adults are having orgies every night or something.

That's good, that you're able to not have sex at 20. Many people do the same. However, many also do not restrain themselves, and that includes Christians. If young people are going to have sex, they should take precautions to avoid unwanted pregnancies. It's so easy nowadays, quite frankly, not to become pregnant. I question those who do not take these precautions. It often seems they actually _intend_ to become pregnant, even while denying it.

True. But the people I respect as strong Christians are not going at it. The girl in question mentioned in the original post knowingly chose this guy; it is her responsibility. I do not know any strong Christians who have a real commitment beyond just show that had sex.
Now, back at high school, there were some. One of the things that struck me was the hypocritical nature of a lot of the "Christians" at my HS.
But, I am at college now and the Christians here are different; there are some exceptions of course, but generally most are at least trying to wait until marriage (if someone genuinely tries but fails, I don't attack them since people are not perfect and God forgives).
In my church, the teens are all from one big family, btw.... There are some college kids, but the girls are not the types that have sex.
To: MineralMan
You are correct on this point.
To: rwfromkansas
Nah.. you were very well spoken. It's nice as a Mom of teens, to know that there are other good ones out there : )
To: thesearethetimes...
Good young people, that is... : )
To: longtermmemmory
that guy was very smart. Can you imagine finding out 6 years down the road and many support payments later that the kid wasn't even his. I would be furious.
To: 1stFreedom
Our daughters, even those into their 20's, need protection by parents. Last time I checked, one was an adult at 18. A parent can offer suggestions, or even threaten kicking the kid out of their house, but after 18, they can do whatever they please...
To: snowstorm12
The asking for a DNA test to protect the child gets them every time. Any woman who does not understand and respect that is hiding something. Its not an accusation its an AFFIRMATION of the truth.
To: MineralMan
It often seems they actually _intend_ to become pregnant, even while denying it.I agree. People that don't use birth control when it is so easy to get and use are actually trying to become pregnant. What else did they think would happen? I don't know why they get so surprised when it does happen.
To: Texaggie79
all true, but the job of Mother and Father is forever. (and that is a good thing.)
To: MineralMan
Hey...I agree with you.
My grandparents had 3 children by age 20 and raised them right too.

18 is an artifical number. It's just a measure of a collective idea of when a child reaches adulthood.
As far as 18 year olds being allowed to do what they want, their track record is miserable.

Original poster was at Church at 3:00.
