Madonna scraps war video for new single |
Madonna has scrapped the controversial video for her new single American Life just days ahead of its premiere on America's VH1 network.
The singer is withdrawing the video out of "sensitivity and respect" to the armed forces involved in the Iraq War.
It was thought she was considering re-editing the video, which depicts the catastrophic repercussions and horror of war.
But in a new statement, Madonna said: "I have decided not to release my new video.
"It was filmed before the war started and I do not believe it is appropriate to air it at this time.
"Due to the volatile state of the world and out of sensitivity and respect to the armed forces, who I support and pray for, I do not want to risk offending anyone who might misinterpret the meaning of this video."
The single is released in the UK on April 14, followed by an album of the same name a week later.

LOL! The bimbette took one look at the Dixie Chicks and realized it doesn't pay to cross Americans. People are just sick of anti-Americanism and they don't want to hear it from their celebrities. So Material Girl made a very very wise decision.

Sounds like a rare case of common sense in the artistic class. Bully for Madonna!

Madonna is not called the "material girl" for nuttin. She is a realist when it comes to marketing. The Video, as you know is a loser anyway. It is still being marketed in Germany, I read elsewhere.

I guess she's not a dumb as she looks and acts.

She's spineless; has no courage of her convictions. I wish she would keep her despicable pro-Saddam sentiments out there for the whole world to see. That would bankrupt her self-obsessed career and free us from her bad acting.
Instead, her career will survive to continue to torment people of culture and good taste.

German MTV? As far I'm concerned it doesn't exist except for the Saddamite lovers who can manage to find nothing good to like about America.

One unexpected discovery is how easily and quickly these entertainers *cave*!

She's a brilliant business women. Promote a controversal video, get people riled up, then pull it. It sure generated a ton of interest, and will result in increased sales of her new one.

Its not like she needs the money.

Madonna isn't a music industry survivor for nothing and she wants to keep workin' on the movie career. The only other option was the scrap heap.
Finally, maybe she knows a friend of a friend of Tony Blair and she risked losing some Brit friends in addition to her American audience.
She's no ditzy chick.

The singer is withdrawing the video out of "sensitivity and respect" to the armed forces involved in the Iraq War. What a LIE!!! She did it to prevent the expected drop in sales that would result. She doesn't give a damn about the armed forces in Iraq - well, at least the American ones, anyway.
