Ok, so I get this email from one of my wife's friends:
"Actually the protestors are not defending the Iraqi government, but are protesting the way this war is being conducted. Our country, and Britain are alone in our stance on this war. Even Italy just had one million people in a non violent protest over the weekend. We went into this too fast without a well formulated plan, or world support. And we were the ones who put Saddam into power! Maybe war was inevitable, but we should have waited for a majority in the U.N. And one might argue that the U.N. wasn't effective, but if we expect Saddam to uphold his promises to then we ought to as well."
I'm trying to decide how to respond. She usually pretty level headed (in fact is a homeschooling mom), but on this topic, she's so misguided. I hate to come after her with both barrels because she and my wife are good friends (My wife is totally pro-Iraqi freedom, BTW) and our boys are really good friends.
Any ideas?
If that is more important than agreeing on this issue (and it probably should be) Then let it go unless you both are un-serious enough to discuss it lightly.... If either of you even might get heated, then I would respond that you disagree but don't want it to wreck the friendships that are at stake *and* for that you both must drop it.
In the end when it is over, it won't matter which of you were right on this, the truth will speak for itself... It is hard for a relationship to survive either of you being right - or wrong - if the argument was emotional.
I have friends I can disagree with all the time... Liberal friends... but the conversations have had to mature to be light-hearted at all times and never pushing an issue that is too close. You would have to judge this relationship for yourself, and if she is really your wife's friend, then ask her what she wants.
