Columbia University professor Nicholas De Genova has a dream. He would like to see 18 million dead Americans and a crushing defeat for the United States.
At an anti-war "teach-in" this week, a Columbia University professor called for the defeat of American forces in Iraq and said he would like to see "a million Mogadishus" - a reference to the Somali city where American soldiers were ambushed, with 18 killed, in 1993.
"The only true heroes are those who find ways that help defeat the U.S. military," Nicholas De Genova, an assistant professor of anthropology and Latino studies at Columbia University, told the audience at Low Library Wednesday night. "I personally would like to see a million Mogadishus."
De Genova was referring to the Mogadishu ambush and firefight, known for its graphic image of a slain American soldier being dragged through the streets. The battle was portrayed in the film "Black Hawk Down."
The crowd was largely silent at De Genova's remark. They loudly applauded him later when he said, "If we really [believe] that this war is criminal ... then we have to believe in the victory of the Iraqi people and the defeat of the U.S. war machine."

The fruits of 8 years incubation, I'd say.
...Clintigula's "legacy."
Well, Clinton certainly did his share to perpetuate the illogical & deranged notion that America is a bad word.
But I'd say folks like this professor have been around for quite some time.
I guess it bothers me so much now, because we've real people dying, real people held captive by Saddam's perverted, evil henchmen & real people going into combat every day.
True liberals, as opposed to your ordinary democrat, are heartless, despicable, outright bastards.
But I still sincerely believe what I have since I can remember...good will always overcome the bad.
I agree with that so much I thought it worthy of repeating, Mr.j. {g}
"But I still sincerely believe what I have since I can remember...good will always overcome the bad."
Think so?
You've more faith in humanity, than I; which, isn't a knock, just a fact.
Not that it matters.
I really like to think of myself as just enlightened enough to sit & listen (as a rule) to any damned thing someone has to say to me; but, my eyes never leave their hands, either.
BTW, I agree with you 101% concerning Limbaugh's motive(s) for leaving that basketcase on the air for 15 whole minutes the other day.
Moreover, Rush responded to a caller with my very sentiment whereby he inasmuch said he'll leave the Liberal-Socialist nutjobs onair in hopes it'll turn even one Liberal-Socialist listening.
Ol' Rush seems to believe the Liberal-Socialist listening might just find themselves repulsed when they realize they're aligned with someone like that.
Of course you & Rush have a lot in common with your faith in humanity, too. {g}
Nevertheless, there's no shortage of *nuts* out there & Rush wasted his -- & his audience's -- time with "Karen" the balloon twister.
...just my .02, j. :^)
You've stated as much previously.
If you'll not be offended at my candor...I think this might be because of your own hubris, as well as, impatience.
You're a very astute & intelligent guy. You strike up a conversation with someone and they reveal that they didn't care for Reagan, and care even less for Dubya.
You're immediate reaction, (I'm conjecturing now), is "well go to Hell you blithering idiot".
I get pretty riled up myself with these folks. But I'm from a family of mostly dem's.
My dad was named after Eugene Debs & his brother's given name was Carl Marx (I reckon grand-dad thought by spelling it with a 'C' it'd somehow be 'ok')
Yes, my grandfather was an admirer of these folks so he paid homage by naming his kids after them. (Uncle Carl went by the name Bud throughout his life though).
I guess what I'm trying to say is that you can't just discount folks because they voted for Clinton.
Landru, a lot of folks don't see your point of view because they don't know what you do.
This doesn't make them bad, just uninformed.
Putting a barrier between yourself and them may prevent you from becoming annoyed, but they will go on and vote for the next Clinton that comes 'round the bend.
Not that it matters.
I believe it does. And I've a sneakin' suspicion you really do too.
