What Was the Point of Tonight's Press Conference

Posted on 03/06/2003 5:14:51 PM PST by ChicagoRepublican

What was the point of tonight's press conference. Bush said nothing new. We're still in the final stages of discovery. Nothing about developments against Al Qaeda was mentioned. I like Bush, but why the hell did he just waste the American people's time.

Yeah, you're right- he'll never amount to anything (like, say, President of the United States).

Sarcasm mode *off*

Texas Poker. He's bet all his chips, drew his last card and now it's time to show your hand and see who wins.

Sobering time.

teleprompter
his answers are halting and obviously being read

Unless he has Superman's telescopic vision, there's no way he's reading from a teleprompter. The cameras and any other A/V equipment are at least 30 feet away from him, as is apparent in the side shots we're seeing of the room. And halting speech is not evidence of reading. He's just not a smooth speaker.

sorry if it offends you but pretending he is answering off the cuff is silly I have been avid political junkie for MANY years and he is reading his answers

It doesn't "offend" me, it's just a nonsensical assertion backed up with no evidence. However, if it pleases you to believe this, go ahead; it's harmless.

Re: "What's going on?

Good question.

To quote an old fable: "Save your frightened song for when there is really something wrong! Don't cry 'wolf' when there is NO wolf!"

Which, in this case; the next time he calls for such forum, he may not have the expected audience - for the sheeple will have been ho-hummed to death.

With all the media time the antiwar crowd has been getting, tonight was essential. The world got to see Bush up front and personal, making his case.

And IMO, make it he did. He is resolute, and even defiant. He takes his Constitutional charge dead seriously, and nothing is going to dissuade him from doing what he thinks is right.

Thank God for our President. Mr. Bush, I will be praying for you. God bless, and God bless America.

Bush's speech was not meant for the media or the well informed. Bush's speech and press conference was for the American public's education and elucidation of the current world situtation.

If true, then he's blown it. He looks terrible. Tonight he had to come out and light it up. The libs are going to roast him for this.

I'm 180 degrees from your opinion. He was calm, prepared, and serious.

80% of the population doesn't follow the news like the average Freeper

I agree, and this way they probably watched it, fearing the worst. Also, he hasn't had a press conference since November.

If he wasted your time why the heck weren't you doing whatever was more important than listening to the President.

No one asked you to listen.

Yo, dipwad...this was your comment to Howlin at 7:49 PM on the Live Thread...and based on this coment I have to assume you weren't expecting anything to begin with...

I for one am considering not watching this speech. It's gonna be painful. Bush will open up with a couple jokes and smirk. At this point you will know nothing serious will happen. Then Bush will state that the UN process is playing itself out, and he hopes for a vote next week on another UN resolution. Then Bush will go on to congratulate organizations for the caputure of the Al Qaeda scum. Bush will follow this up with some positive talk about homeland security. A couple softball questions will be fielded, and the status quo will be maintained. War, the capture of Bin Laden, and the Estrada nomination won't be any closer. Some freepers will complain vociferously about Bush, while others will say that Bush is patient/master "strategery"ist. The end.

as such, I suggest you take this thoughtless and meaningless post somewhere else where like minded people like you can tear the President apart while he carries the burden of having just made the difficult decision to send our Men and Women of our Armed Forces into battle.

Trust me, they were not watching, probably did not even know it was on. Dr. Phil will tell them what to think tomorrow.

I did notice he kept looking down to the podium

The one think that dissapointed me was the question about how do we keep this from becoming another vietnam - me & my buddies were yelling at the TV wanting him to say he will give our military everything neccesary to complete their mission (rapidly, with minimal american losses), and he never said it

The purpose was VERY clear. His target audience was not the American public, it was the UN. "The train is leaving the station, they can be on it or under it!"

He plainly told them that he was going ahead without them if necessary. They can choose to support our position or immediately become irrelevant. If they can't do anything to make Iraqq follow their dictates they sure won't be able to do anything about the US.
