What Was the Point of Tonight's Press Conference
Posted on 03/06/2003 5:14:51 PM PST by ChicagoRepublican
What was the point of tonight's press conference. Bush said nothing new. We're still in the final stages of discovery. Nothing about developments against Al Qaeda was mentioned. I like Bush, but why the hell did he just waste the American people's time.

Clear your cookies if you have another screen name and re-log in to FR under your other name. Email Admistration and tell them what you have done and ask for some help clearing out the "helpme" screen name. They should help you get straightened out. Always be courtious with AM in the process and with luck you should come out smelling like a rose.
BTW Welcome to F.R.

I know not everyone is not a good public speaker but he really needs to work on it if he is going to succeed. He is President of the USA, what exactly is your definition of success?

I also believe it was for the UN. He has now called out the weasels. "everyone's cards on the table" is pretty plain spoken- no diplomatic wiggle room there. He has told the UN to put up or shut up. He has also assured SH that he is not going to just lob a couple missiles and call it good.
People that are expecting showmanship over substance worry me. This is not meant for entertainment purposes. Look to 9/11 to see what a President who was worried about his "entertainment value" gets.
(I know you are not one of those from your comments.)

Here is a site for help on all them strange abbrevations you see posted on FR. (Example: POTUS = President of the United States)
Help on all those strange terms like "Bump" and what they mean
Remember, there is no better way to learn all the ins and outs of FR like just taking your time and letting it absorb into ya. Time will benefit ya, so don't be frustrated for now.

I think that a good deal was targeted at Daschle, Pelosi & Hillary too.

"cards on the table" is a good analogy. W is sitting with 5 aces and is raising & checking.

The one think that dissapointed me was the question about how do we keep this from becoming another vietnam - me & my buddies were yelling at the TV wanting him to say he will give our military everything neccesary to complete their mission (rapidly, with minimal american losses), and he never said it
The only thing I can do is assure the loved ones of those who wear our uniform that if we have to go to war, if war is upon us because Saddam Hussein has made that choice, we will have the best equipment available for our troops, the best plan available for victory, and we will respect innocent life in Iraq.
It may not be the exact words you were looking for, but it's pretty clear that the meaning was there.

Hey what press conference did you watch. Except for the jokes, which did not happen, I pretty much called that nothing will happen. Was I wrong? Were you right? Why don't you go to a forum where people always support George W Bush all the time no matter what just because he had an R by his name when he ran for the president. This is a conservative forum, and we're willing to question everyone and their motives if they seem to be compromising conservative additudes or the very security of our country. I'm sure no one on this forum wants a President who is currently working on yet ANOTHER resolution and deadline with the UN. If anyone leaves it should be you!

He put the UN security council on notice that he would be calling for a vote, that we would be taking name and kicking butt. France, Germany, Russia, China, all took note. Expect a change in attitude when the vote does come.
