In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Teacher's note:

Please help me welcome Lunatic Fringe to our class! Also, due to the fact that I missed class yesterday, you will all recieve A's.

palaver\puh-LAV-ur; puh-LAH-vur\, noun:
palaver, intransitive verb, transitive verb

1.Talk; conversation; especially: a. idle talk b. talk intended to beguile or deceive.
2. A parley usually between persons of different backgrounds or cultures or levels of sophistication; a talk; hence, a public conference and deliberation.
Other forms:
intransitive verb:
To use palaver; to talk idly.

transitive verb:
To use palaver to; to flatter; to cajole.

[H]e is glad to palaver of his many adventures, as a boy will whistle after sundown in a wood.
--O. Henry, "The Man Higher Up"

Etymology: Palaver derives from Late Latin parabola, a proverb, a parable, from Greek parabole, from paraballein, to compare, from para-, beside + ballein, to throw. In Medieval Latin, parabola acquired the further senses 'word' and 'tale, story', whence Portuguese palavra (compare Spanish palabra, word), whence palaver , with its own new, naturally derivative senses.

Cripes. And we're planning on a Virginia run on Friday - I think I will fill up here instead of there. In the past the eastern shore prices were always cheaper than here in Dover.

he was fantastic, i saw it on H&C last night. i also loved his little dig at Scott Ritter and how he had to change his story on Iraq, because he was spending too much time on the internet....

They joked around about brian sitting in for Seanny and i think that would be a great idea!

I had a half day yesterday with the 'bot.

My rain versus your snow. I think I'll take my rain. But by summer I'll want to trade!

It was sort of spring like on Sunday and Monday. And the weather forecasters are around here have absolutely NO clue as to that these 2 storms are going to bring us.

predictions range from just rain up to 10 inches of snow.

Despite her attempt at leftist palaver, Janeane Garofalo was slammed to the mat by Fox and Friends' Brian Kilmeade

And on a Related note, here is what a TALENTED comedian had to say.

"If you're watching, I think you're doing a hell of a job. I'm proud you're my president. ...I think there are a lot more people out here on your side than you may think."
-Dennis Miller on the Tonight Show

It's good to be back for a few hours. There's been so much going on around here . . .

We get our new grandfather clock on either Saturday or Sunday. It is so beautiful.

Going to the chiro today probably from lifting too many groceries. Boys can eat you out of house and home. How do they stay so skinny?

By the end of the day, we'll have had more rain this year than we did in the entire year of 2002.

You would have thunk the weeds would have died out last year . . .

Is it really that deep? I love those little bulbs that pop up through the snow. Can't think of their name offhand, but they are the first ones up.
