In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of word for the day. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the word of the day; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....
Teacher's note:
Please help me welcome Lunatic Fringe to our class! Also, due to the fact that I missed class yesterday, you will all recieve A's.
palaver\puh-LAV-ur; puh-LAH-vur\, noun:
palaver, intransitive verb, transitive verb
1.Talk; conversation; especially: a. idle talk b. talk intended to beguile or deceive.
2. A parley usually between persons of different backgrounds or cultures or levels of sophistication; a talk; hence, a public conference and deliberation.
Other forms:
intransitive verb:
To use palaver; to talk idly.
transitive verb:
To use palaver to; to flatter; to cajole.
[H]e is glad to palaver of his many adventures, as a boy will whistle after sundown in a wood. --O. Henry, "The Man Higher Up"
Etymology: Palaver derives from Late Latin parabola, a proverb, a parable, from Greek parabole, from paraballein, to compare, from para-, beside + ballein, to throw. In Medieval Latin, parabola acquired the further senses 'word' and 'tale, story', whence Portuguese palavra (compare Spanish palabra, word), whence palaver , with its own new, naturally derivative senses.

Shhhh...You know that we do not discuss the attempts by Principal Rob to mainstream Dain. He tried to bite a mod once. He's just our special Dain, drool and all.

it is #$%%g snowing again here. this is ridiculous. they are saying another 6-10" by friday. at least they have not yet cancelled school. They revealed the makeup schedule yesterday, they will be going on MEMORIAL DAY (it will be field day for them) and they are making all the remaining half days into full daYs. i say HALLELUJAH to that. the half days are a pain in my @$$, and they schedule way too many of them. Of course, this can all be done because there are no teacher unions to contend with in Catholic school. i have no idea how fairfax co. intends to deal with the makeup.

i would hope that there would be much palavering about this
bake sale! It illustrates the point perfectly, and i think the concept should spread far and wide.

Ocean Township is a mess. Please read the following links from the Sunday Asbury Park Press concerning our former mayor Article about Mayor and what some of us are doing about it Article about us. The article about the former mayor sounds like something straight out of the Sopranos.
We had our big kick off last evening pledging "No-Pay-toPlay" and to contract out professional services valued at more than $2000.
