In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Teacher's note:

Please help me welcome Lunatic Fringe to our class! Also, due to the fact that I missed class yesterday, you will all recieve A's.

palaver\puh-LAV-ur; puh-LAH-vur\, noun:
palaver, intransitive verb, transitive verb

1.Talk; conversation; especially: a. idle talk b. talk intended to beguile or deceive.
2. A parley usually between persons of different backgrounds or cultures or levels of sophistication; a talk; hence, a public conference and deliberation.
Other forms:
intransitive verb:
To use palaver; to talk idly.

transitive verb:
To use palaver to; to flatter; to cajole.

[H]e is glad to palaver of his many adventures, as a boy will whistle after sundown in a wood.
--O. Henry, "The Man Higher Up"

Etymology: Palaver derives from Late Latin parabola, a proverb, a parable, from Greek parabole, from paraballein, to compare, from para-, beside + ballein, to throw. In Medieval Latin, parabola acquired the further senses 'word' and 'tale, story', whence Portuguese palavra (compare Spanish palabra, word), whence palaver , with its own new, naturally derivative senses.

when women meet a man, their first thought (not even in the top 10 actually) is NOT what it would be like to go to bed with them.

Well, now, from my experience, wait.....does "the minute I laid eyes on you" part count as meeting?

Remove the "in" from "brainless" and the "w" from "twits," and you'll stumble upon the real truth.

I love the purple ones, too. I love bulbs. Cyber is having a new side yard put it for me to garden. Almost everyone here has the rock gardens. But there's an area on the side where we can knock down a tree I hate, and add 20 feet on to the side. It's great soil and not too much sun.

I learned a trick years ago about bulbs. Bulbs need to be cold in order to bloom the following year. You just put those little guys in the ground, and around this time of the year you get a bunch of crushed ice and throw it on the soil. Voila! You've had a snow.

this recipe sounds good to me. i like cranberrys and pecans and turkey together.

the more gardens the better! i may have filled up my one side yard with perennials last year. i have to see. then i will want a new area to garden elsewhere in the yard!

"Clift is a major purveyor of palaver. I can't watch McLaughlin any more because of her. Too much risk for my big screen television."

If I were the teach, you'd be getting mega pluses after your A. Can't stand that woman.

What anagram factory has been blown up this week? LOL!

That recipe sounds delicious, but I would have to take out the cranberries, pecans and spinach. The guys here wouldn't eat that.

But I think I'll make a pot pie tonight with the regular potatoes, carrots, onions, et cetera. Thanks for the idea!
