Word For The Day, Wednesday, 2/12/03
2/12/03
Posted on 02/12/2003 12:33:25 AM PST by Bella_Bru
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of word for the day. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the word of the day; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....
Teacher's note:
On Monday, I gave this word as an alternate for some students. It's all in good fun, but you do know that I get irked sometimes.
kvetch\KVECH\, intransitive verb:
kvetch, noun
To complain habitually.
noun:
1. A complaint.
2. A habitual complainer.
Etymology: Kvetch comes from Yiddish kvetshn, "to squeeze, to complain," from Middle High German quetzen, quetschen, "to squeeze."

Cool, I wanted one but the cash flow didn't allow. So I signed up to get email from someone in the booth next to Taxman and got two bobble-heads - W. and Uncle Sam.
I would love to hear xsbrownie's presentation on that. I bet it will cute. Will you go and watch? If you do, how about giving us a description and run down on it!

I'm glad that xshub did that. She should have recognized what was going on and straightened it out before before hand. I imagine that your daughter is madder than a wet hen, which she has every right to be. Tell her she's got a lot of people pulling for her.

Yes ma'am, you may. Danny is my ex-husband and the other is the thing that he was involved with while I was in the hospital having his child. They were in our apartment, in our bed, etc. etc. etc.

I'm glad to hear you are having better luck dealing with xsteen's situation.
A dear friend of mine (and fellow freeper who will remain unnamed at the moment)has been going through an absolute nightmare with her daughter. straight A honor roll student, ROTC - whole nine-yards, all around good kid - was expelled from school by the school board the night before last.
Some kid threw a firecracker in the cafeteria and it landed on my friend's kid's table - she grabbed it and tossed it off the table before it blew. Other kids said she did it and without a hearing she was suspended and then expelled.
It's been an absolute nightmare for them.

Yep, but you know what my Daddy and Momma said? He's a man. Men have certain needs. Man, by his very nature, is unable to be monogomous, etc., etc., etc...

Oh Gabz! That is horrible. Please tell the nameless FReeper that I hope that she/he is able to straighten this out. The Zero tolerance is being abused by the schools, what a shame.

That sounds like way more fun than the way I utilized my many long years of engineering school education today -- checking that a (long) list of changes to a 500+ page technical standard were made correctly.Well "fun" is not a descriptor that I would employ in this regard, my FRiend... "Floor-lickingly short-hair-rippingly frustrating" may be a better term... Think 2 + 8 + 2 + 7 = 19 different focusing elements to adjust along the way, and add that to a big-a$$ dipole magnet mass selector whose stray B-fields one can barely begin to estimate the diverging effect of... Let alone the stray E-fields caused by the focusing elements in the vicinity of interest... Maxie has the mother of all headaches.

Yes, it's a public school and it is all about that zero tolerance crapola
But in typical FReeper fashion she is not taking it quietly. There is apparently a pattern of this type of thing in that school district.
In the past 2 years their suspension and expulsion rate has skyrocketed and many of the kids are high achievers - straight A honor roll students.
The interesting thing, it appears that a large number of them are minority. My husband suspects that maybe they are in fear of losing some kind of funding because the minority students are succeeding so well. My friend is of asian descent, her daughter is biracial.
It's an absolute mess.
But we're FReepers - we do not remain silent.
