Survivor 6: The Amazon
Posted on 02/11/2003 4:56:24 AM PST by cuz_it_aint_their_money
Well, Im back.
Sort of.
My wife, (the lovely and gracious, Mrs. CUZ) has laid down the law!
Youre spending too much time FReeping and not enough time paying attention to me!
Women! Go figure!
Anyway, my FReeping has been severely curtailed, so Ill start this thread, and from time to time, spout off with my two cents worth, but someone else will have to maintain the ping list and post weekly recaps (If they feel so inclined).
If someone wants the ping list, FReepmail me and Ill send it to them.
Till then,
Enjoy,

Great minds think alike! I also thought later about the producers. It would be a fun trick. However I have read the camera people and crew are under strict regs. I don't think the producers visit the camps.

Morning to ya.....I'm gonna climb out on my limb here, and probably saw it off, but given the fact that FR and Freepers have proven to be uncanny predictors of futre trends, the huge decline in interest on this thread , compared to earlier Survivors...probably means that Survivor has "jumped the shark" and the show is declining. This one realy bores me. I usualluy tape it, and watch it the next morning...after fast forwarding through the recap of the previous show, ALL the commericials, the credits, the scenic shots, and the slo-mo pics of people voting, you can actually watch the show in about 18 minutes....if Survivor was a stock, I'd short it....indeed, the preview of the "bouncing boobs" for next week's show indicates that there's "trouble in River City." and speakign of rivers....if you bathe in a tributary of the Amazon, who's watching out for the caymen and anacondas...

Well, they do call it survivor. Can you imagine 42 days without Free Republic??? Ahhh!
To: stands2reason
You are correct. None of them compare to those 2.
To: MomwithHope
I couldn't get over the fact that the guys were even cooking better than the women.
Geez, I'm not an outdoorsy person, but I think I could survive better than these women.
To: ken5050
I think the only thing that would really work is an all-star survivor with the favorites from the past survivors. It would be great fun to see Richard Hatch, Jerri, Colby, Lex, Brian, and our other favorite survivors against each other.
I think we should start picking the teams. Who should be on an all-star survivor?
To: luckystarmom
Interesting concept...but that would also be an admission that the show was "over"

the huge decline in interest on this thread , compared to earlier Survivors...probably means that Survivor has "jumped the shark" and the show is declining. It's early on. You have to give it a few weeks for people to learn personalities and such. I am sure the ratings are declining from series to series, but the show still does better than most TV.
As for the thread as a bellweather, if it doesn't pick up in a few weeks, you may be right. For the time being, there is not much to be said, except how dumb the women are coming across for not having a shelter and for washing their underwear, etc.
And that has been said.

I am also finding this concept to be interesting. It is amazing that the men are figuring out everything in their camp. The shelter, the cooking. Yet, not quite figuring out how to win challenges, though they did win the 2nd immunity challenge. I was a little suprised about this because in my experience, women seem to be a little detail oriented than men.
Perhaps, the women were looking at other details, and not the counts of how many of this or that there were, and getting ideas of what the camp looks like, and possibly how they could apply this to their own. We can only tell in the future.
I wonder if since the ladies have seen the hut in the question challenge, they might get more ideas about food and cooking. Afterall, the little cakes that were made on the fire were there too. The ladies seem stronger in the challenges, at this point acting more like a team, I just don't understand why they can't get this together in the camp.
I don't really recall all the names.... but the one who hates the ideology of the idol, and the sight of it, really needs to put her b&*chy additudal mouth in check. They are supposed to be a team, many acting as one. She's going to be a gonner in the future.
Janet, the homemaker, is weak. I do agree with the producers plant theory on the granola bar. It seems as though the "stronger" ones were picking on the "weaker" ones. It was probably a wise choice to give her the boot, afterall, she wasn't fairing too well strength and health wise.
Christy may be playing on her disability a little bit, but she really may be an advantage to the team in the long run, if they could find some way to include her and be honest in what they tell her. It all will depend on how perceptive she is, and where she will find the deceptions are. I am sure that her other senses are stronger than the others think. If she makes it to the merge, she may have an advantage. She just needs to stop letting her emotions show, running down her cheeks. She's showing the others this, and should put up a stronger front. Though it's good that she is speaking her mind, to the group as a whole (shelter building incident and at their first tribal council).
The PE Teacher, bugs me somehow, and I haven't really put my finger on it. Perhaps, it's in her side commentary.

"I do agree with the producers plant theory on the granola bar. It seems as though the "stronger" ones were picking on the "weaker" ones." I couldn't believe they actually destroyed food for any reason when they threw the granola bar in the fire. This even topped the several hours they spent trying to light a fire when kerosene was right there next to them.
I think the women are going to get beaten in the future challenges as the men create a working team, like a football or soccer team figures out who is best a what.

I agree with you SD. It is early. Actually, I would have been posting all the while as well, but we were out of town for the first episode. So we taped the first two shows and had a Survivor-Fest on Friday night.
So far, I really enjoy this version of Survivor. I thought it was cool that the guys, from the start, seemed to have some perspective in setting priorities. For example, when it came to finding a location for the shelter, they didn't walk around in a large group. Instead, they split up, and decided to discuss the best options afterward. VERY efficient. Plus they got a good start on their shelter. In Survivor, you want to get as much done in the first 2 days, as hunger/fatigue quickly follow.
Looking forward to the next show!!!

The players:
Team Testosterone: Alex, Butch, Daniel, Dave, Matthew, Rob, Roger
Team Estrogen: Christy, Deena, Heidi, Jeanne, Jenna, Joanna, Shawna
The Losers: Ryan, Janet
Good Morning Fellow Survivor Junkies
Well, (not patting myself on the back or nothin) yours truly is two for two.
I called both Ryan and Janets demise; Lets see if I can make it three for three.
(I know, I know, last week I said it could be either Janet or Dan depending on which team wins the Ugly Idol. And until the Merge, and it goes to individual Immunity Challenges, I will continue to pick a loser for each team.)
The drama continues over at the Team Estrogen camp.
Joanna wins the Bimbo of the Week award for her refusal to allow the Ugly Idol to be kept in the camp.
Hey Joanna, if you dont want the Immunity Idol, Im sure the guys will be more than happy to keep it for you.
That little hissy fit moved Joanna to the top of my boot list for Team Estrogen.
Meanwhile, over at Team Testosterone, Roger and Alex engage in a lively discussion regarding the pros and cons of homosexuality.
After all, their shelter is built, they have figured out how to cook the manioc root without burning it (hear that ladies?), and you dont need all seven guys fishing, so what else is there to do?
In fact, things were pretty calm and quite at the guys camp this week so, Dan remains at the top of my boot list for Team Testosterone.
OK, there you have Cuzs predictions for episode three:
If Team Estrogen wins the Ugly Idol, Dan gets the boot.
If Team Testosterone wins the Ugly Idol, Joanna gets the boot.
Well, thats all for this week. Enjoy,
To: cuz_it_aint_their_money
My money's on Dave (the rocket scientist) or Christy.

I agree with your statement on Joanna, she's a left wing black religious fanatic and when she does get the boot (which I think will be the next the next time they go to tribal council)she will scream bloody murder about racism. She is a whacko if i've ever seen one.
To: HELLRAISER II
I agree with you about the whacko aspect. But I think she has the weaker women intimidated (which is most of them)I don't know if they have the guts to vote her off. See you all later tonight. We have to tape and watch later :((
