Welcome to my world. VRWCteenboy just got his DL last week. He has only gotten to take the car out on his own once so far. Of course he thinks he should be able to take it anytime and anywhere he wants to, but it doesn't work that way at our house.

the fullblown license? not just the permit? scary biz. i don't know what sort of area you live in, vast, but it is extremely congested here and i dread like mad xsteen being out on the road. my nearly 17 yo niece in OH, relatively RURAL OH, drives with white knuckles. i don't know how we are going to get through this driving thang. As much of a break it would be for me, to have someone else share in trotting them around, the fear factor will more than outweigh it.

We started Jean (and Tom and Russel as well) with a student permit as soon as they were eligible at age 15..... Started them with training seesions (hours of parallel parking, backing and turning, pulling in and out of different spaces, etc. in an empty parking lot.)

.... But then THEY drove EVERYWHERE EVERYTIME that they were in the car for the next year.

I figure that after a year of constant driving everytime the family went anywhere they had between 10,000 and 15,000 miles "training time" - particularly since Ronnie and Jean went back and forth to the same school each day.
