In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of word for the day. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the word of the day; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....
Thank you, VRWCMember, for today's WFTD!

I'm sure you can give her some driving instruction, especially in the finer art of parking the vehicle.

the fullblown license? not just the permit? scary biz. i don't know what sort of area you live in, vast, but it is extremely congested here and i dread like mad xsteen being out on the road. my nearly 17 yo niece in OH, relatively RURAL OH, drives with white knuckles. i don't know how we are going to get through this driving thang. As much of a break it would be for me, to have someone else share in trotting them around, the fear factor will more than outweigh it.

He got his learner's permit last summer, a provisional in November, and now the full blown license. It is quite nerve-wracking when he drives, simply because of how much traffic we have, how many inexperienced teenaged drivers are on those congested roads, and how the adolescent brain works (or doesn't) in critical situations. But they grow up and you have to allow them to have some freedoms and responsibilities. But be assured we are keeping a VERY tight rein and the driving PRIVILEGES (he has no driving "rights" at this point) are subject to revocation for deviation from the strict rules that we impose. (I'm such a tyrannical parent.)

We started Jean (and Tom and Russel as well) with a student permit as soon as they were eligible at age 15..... Started them with training seesions (hours of parallel parking, backing and turning, pulling in and out of different spaces, etc. in an empty parking lot.)
.... But then THEY drove EVERYWHERE EVERYTIME that they were in the car for the next year.
I figure that after a year of constant driving everytime the family went anywhere they had between 10,000 and 15,000 miles "training time" - particularly since Ronnie and Jean went back and forth to the same school each day.

i see the wisdom of your approach robt, but recall that i am older than you were at that time and my patience is more worn....
i know it will surprise you all but it turns out that PMS came over me today and besides wanting to murder all of the idiotic UN ambassadors that sounded off today, and all people on the road in my path on my rounds this afternoon, it is possible that i would turn to family members....

Older?
Heck, young lady - Jean was still student driving only 17 months ago!

i am all with you as far as children in our household having no rights. again at the dang public library yesterday, xsbrownie, AGE 8, had (through ME of course)made a request to hold a book for her once it came back in. The book was in and we got a note in the mail, i tried to get the book out for her yesterday while she met with her tutor, but the librarian would NOT permit me to do that since i didn't have HER card or HER in person. She needed either xsbrownie in the flesh or her card (which was out in the car and i was attempting to use xsboy's card which was in my hand) NO WAY, they insisted that xsbrownie's privacy rights prevailed. How dare someone give my kids a RIGHT! there are no rights, only privileges! i totally agree!

.... But then THEY drove EVERYWHERE EVERYTIME that they were in the car for the next year. He thinks he should drive everytime he's in the car too, but there are lots of times -- going to very unfamiliar territory or on busy congested highway with lots of road construction or in bad driving weather -- that I wasn't about to let him drive. The situation called for a driver with years -- not weeks or months -- of driving experience.

I'm sure you can give her some driving instruction, especially in the finer art of parking the vehicle. Heh. Parking is easy. I'm the one who figured out how to shift the Volks bus into reverse while travelling forward at almost 50 KPH. They stop real fast when you do that.
