At the request of members, I am restarting those "Tales from the Dark UnderBelly Of the Beast"-- the stories and issues that the press and media either ignore, won't even talk about, or will mention once and forevermore claim "it's old news..."
Naturally, some will be stories which interest me, or things I think we all need to be aware of.
I am experimenting with a minor change in presentation- when I can, I will cut to
-GoogleNewsBeta--
with a keyword or two and see what kind of links to "mainstream" stories I can find in contrast to what we see here and on other sites.
May I remind you of a couple of points to bear in mind?
Each link usually has many other links within- follow them all to get "the rest of the story."
Don't forget the "open multiple browsers" trick with control-n -- this allows you to hold your place with one, and use the others to follow links, run searches, etc.

Judge Friedman ruled that the Chinese contributions were ok if not "hard" etc. The section,

Race is on for backup fuels -- We need to drill sufficient quantities of oil from our own sources -- IMMEDIATELY -- enough to demonstrate to OPEC and the world that we are able and willing to go on without ANY oil from the Middle East, if necessary. I believe that we could get the first barrels of oil from Anwar within one year, and that safely, if Congress would put the right leash on the EPA and other bureaucracies. OPEC would then collapse in significance.
Just drill for oil, research the alternatives, and build nuke plants. How hard is that?

It's also quintessentially Canadian, at least with this tired and incompetent Liberal Party in power. What is it? It is the ridiculous manner in which tax policy regarding income trusts and dividents was being announced, changed, and leaked over the last week.
Since then, it has been full-scale panic as Ottawa dealt with all sorts of anger from all sorts of people -- market participants, industry executives, retail investors and pension funds. And the final straw: "The government then tells a bunch of Bay Street insiders what it is going to do so they can profit. And then it does it. It's insane," added the banker.
