DUBOB 11- more tales from the Dark UnderBelly Of the Beast...
various links and websites | 01-31-03 | The Heavy Equipment Guy

Posted on 01/31/2003 5:07:21 PM PST by backhoe

At the request of members, I am restarting those "Tales from the Dark UnderBelly Of the Beast"-- the stories and issues that the press and media either ignore, won't even talk about, or will mention once and forevermore claim "it's old news..."

Naturally, some will be stories which interest me, or things I think we all need to be aware of.

I am experimenting with a minor change in presentation- when I can, I will cut to

-GoogleNewsBeta--

with a keyword or two and see what kind of links to "mainstream" stories I can find in contrast to what we see here and on other sites.

May I remind you of a couple of points to bear in mind?
Each link usually has many other links within- follow them all to get "the rest of the story."
Don't forget the "open multiple browsers" trick with control-n -- this allows you to hold your place with one, and use the others to follow links, run searches, etc.

Rather than go back and rehash old links, I'll give you links to the original posts here:

-DUBOB 10- the *best of* the Dark Underbelly Series--

-DUBOB 9-- even *more* tales from the Dark Underbelly of the Beast..... --

DUBOB 8-- still *more* tales from the Underbelly***

DUBOB 7-- even *more* tales from the Dark Underbelly of the Beast.....

DUBOB 6-- yet *more* tales from the Dark Underbelly of the Beast.....

DUBOB 5-- even *more* tales from the Dark Underbelly of the Beast.....

DUBOB IV- yet more Tales from the Dark Underbelly of the Beast-

DUBOB III -- "Tales from the Dark Underbelly of the Beast"

DUBOB 2-- more tales from The Dark Underbelly of the Beast-- thread II

The Day the American Dream Dies

"If these politicians win—if they succeed in creating a society where those who work and sacrifice and save their entire lives can see the fruits of their labors confiscated to pay government benefits to someone else—that will be the day the American Dream dies."

I think the exact date will end up being Nov. 4, 2008, which incidently I believe was made a holiday in Kenya.

The federal government has just expropriated Chrysler, and made a gift of it to the UAW. This is banana republic stuff.

Glenn Beck Destroys ACORN: "Get The Hell Out Of My Studio" (Video)

Since March, I have headed a phone survey of voters in my legislative district. Our project included the calling of all voters who were not identified with party affiliation for 140 precinct in our district. We have just finished with this project.

Keep in mind that the voters in our county will be all voting by mail in all elections from now on. We just had our first all mail elections recently to elect our county elections board supervisor. Guess who won the election? The Democrat.

We have called over 4,000 of these unidentified voters. About 10% of the voters we called were not at the address listed in the calling list we received from the Secretary of State. These lists would give the phone number, the address, the voters and the age of the voters at that address.

When we found a voter not at the address, we would question the person we reached on the telephone. We asked if the person listed at that address had ever lived at that address. We asked if they always had the same phone number and how long they lived there. One person said that they lived at the same address for 30 years with the same phone number. The person we were calling for had never lived at that residence. This happened over and over.

Just thought my fellow Freepers would like to get some first hand information about how bad it is.

Highway Robbery -- by Law Enforcement?

As reprehensible as this “franchise” is, it’s been this way for 20 some years. As soon as these federal seizure laws went into effect, law enforcement agencies have been using the unprecedented power accorded to them, to line their own pockets. The states (Texas also) know all about it. They just don’t remove the problem, for whatever reason. Remember, the states get a cut of seizure assets as well, if the state grabs the property. Money is money, and any time there’s a big pile of it sitting around people are going to find a way to grab what isn’t theirs (on both sides of the law).

As to this particular crime family, it’s just a case of thugs with badges and law degrees. They don’t have much to do with your average cop or DA. They all know what these people are.

Bigger Than Watergate? (Cuomo letter to Dodd, Frank, Schapiro, Warren about BoA & Merrill Lynch)

Well I wasn’t around for Watergate but it HAD to be juicier than this.

No, I was around then, and this is far wider in scope, if you consider taking down the economy of the US and the world.

That is the Big Picture behind what happened last fall.

The problem is that the MSM is in the can for the World Oligarchs and their frontmen like 0bama.

Detroit Free Press: Obama Ushers in Era of Oppression of Free Speech?

Looks like it is just starting to dawn on some lefties that Obama is ushering in an era of oppression of free speech. So it seems for Laura Varon Brown of the Detroit Free Press, at least. Oh, she isn't saying that Obama himself is trampling on free speech, but she is starting to understand that the left's penchant for political correctness is serving the function as a sort of self-imposed oppression no matter what Obama says. It's getting so bad, according to Brown, that any criticism of Obama is treated as akin to treason... at least it is in the "circles" she runs in, anyway.

Brown can count herself in the same boat as the late-night comedy shows that are finding that any criticism of The One is verboten to their left-wing audiences. Even the supposedly unshakable Bill Maher, who congratulates himself on his bravery for taking on the establishment, has found that he's had to shy from criticizing Obama. These people are seeing that attacking "The Man" is not so funny when it is their man in the crosshairs. Suddenly such folks have a new-found respect for the office and a more circumspect behavior toward the president is now du jour.

Rep. Jason Chaffetz, one of the bright lights of the GOP in the House, has a terrific idea to let the sun shine in on the Democrats’ massive national energy tax proposal.

He’s looking for co-sponsors of a measure that would require full disclosure of the impact of “cap-and-trade” on ratepayers.

After Beck destroyed him on national TV he threw the guy out of his studio.
The Washington Examiner reported:

ACORN National Spokesman Scott Levenson was ejected from a Fox News studio Wednesday following an off-camera altercation with host Glenn Beck that involved racially charged comments, as they were described by Beck.

“I threw him out of the studio, get the hell out of my studio,” Beck told viewers he said after Levenson accused him of being “afraid of black people.”

Beck told listeners after the break that Levenson was expelled from the studio after he accused the host of being racist. Levenson appeared on the “Glenn Beck” show to respond to criminal charges filed against ACORN employees in Nevada on Monday. The non-profit organization, formally known as the Association for Community Organizations for Reform Now, is under investigation nationwide for voter fraud in at least 12 different states.

In his exchange with Beck, the ACORN spokesman insisted that individual employees were responsible for the violations but not the national organization. Beck was not persuaded by this defense and persisted in his questioning.

What They Are Not Telling You About Pakistan

The situation in Pakistan is much worse than you are hearing. Much of the coverage (here at Atlas) is the increasing power grab of pious Muslims ("fundamentalists) in SWAT and the rise of the Taliban as well. But the power that holds that fragile tinderbox together is the military, and the military appears to be fracturing. Should that happen, true Islam ("Islamists") will take over that country. Think jihad with nukes.

Should the Pakistani military split, the Taliban will seize control. The specter of Muslim "extremists" seizing power and handing over the country's nuclear weapons to Al Qaeda is very real.

Will B. Hussein call for a US military invasion into Pakistan and "persuade" the Pakistani military to turn over its nukes? As I pointed out yesterday, Obama is clueless. That, or he's dangerous - we know he loves chaos. Either way, he has no plan. But know, the situation in Pakistan is much worse than they are letting on.

Apparently the problem in the Pakistan military is within the junior ranks of the army - right up to Majors. There are many who will not take up arms against the Taleban, "seen as 'kindred' souls - in the struggle against the West in general, and the US in particular. To that extent the army is reverting to its post Zia identity as a guardian of the Islamic faith and according it a higher priority than the defence of national sovereignty, territorial integrity and the values enshrined in Pakistan's constitution." (here)

Government Steals Land for 911 Islamic Crescent Memorial

Flight_93_memorial

It keeps getting worse. Regular Atlas readers are familiar with the abomination being built on the site where those brave Americans on flight 93 fought back and averted another massive Islamic terror attack on the capital on 911. United Flight 93 was traveling from Newark, N.J., to San Francisco when it was diverted by hijackers with the goal of crashing it into the White House or Capitol. The official 9/11 Commission report said the hijackers crashed the plane as passengers tried to wrest control of the cockpit.

To memorize to those brave Americans, the dhimmis in charge plan to erect a giant Islamic crescent. We have fought this for the past year (Atlas coverage here). Khalim Massoud, president of Muslims against Sharia--Islamic Reform Movement, issued a press release in support of Tom Burnett Sr.'s efforts to stop the Park Service from planting a giant Mecca-oriented crescent atop his son's grave.

As if that weren't terrible enough, now they are stealing private land to build this monstrosity.

Islam_93tiplinebisector2bqiblacolor

The green circle, marked with the qibla for Somerset, is from Islam.com. A person standing at the midpoint between the most obtruding tips of the crescent structure and facing into the center of the crescent (red arrow), will be facing almost exactly at Mecca.Posted by Picasa

PITTSBURGH – The government will begin taking land from seven property owners so that the Flight 93 memorial can be built in time for the 10th anniversary of the 2001 terrorist attacks, the National Park Service said.

In a statement obtained by The Associated Press, the park service said it had teamed up with a group representing the victims' families to work with landowners since before 2005 to acquire the land.

"But with few exceptions, these negotiations have been unsuccessful," said the statement.

Landowners dispute that negotiations have taken place and say they are disappointed at the turn of events.

The Era of the Overlord: Obama's Gangland Style

Obama thinks he's still in Kenya and this is his little fiefdom. His third world bullying and Idi Amin-esque tactics echo the same second rate gangland style politics of his homeland countries of Kenya and Indonesia (where he grew up).

Last month, Obamafia threatened CEOs. He actually said, "my administration is the only thing between you and the pitchforks.” That's not a president, that's a tyrant. This is an egregious abuse of power. And though exposed, the autocrat's unchallenged attacks on America proceed unabated.
Robert Tracinski of TIA daily elaborates:

The breadth of Obama's assault on capitalism is breathtaking: from seeking to regulate fine details like credit card fees, to exerting control over major banks, restructuring the auto industry from the Oval Office, seeking to nationalize the entire health care industry, and proposing a national cap on fossil fuel consumption and a thinly disguised system of energy rationing.

But that kind of sweeping control over the economy is not compatible with a system of government designed to protect individual liberty. America's traditional legal system is all about laws and rights and contracts—a fine web of protections for the rights of the individual—and that tends to get in the way of vast schemes for government disposal of our lives and wealth.

So President Obama has decided to throw out that existing legal system and knock down the protections for individual rights.

Our first major warning of this is the deal being forced on Chrysler's "secured creditors." These are institutions that loaned money to Chrysler when it was in trouble; they were willing to take the risk because they were relying on a legal principle which gives them first claim on the company's assets in case of bankruptcy. Thus, in the worst case scenario, they expected to reclaim as much as 80 cents on each dollar of their investment, limiting their losses.

But the Obama administration wants them to accept only 29 cents on the dollar, in the name of "sharing the sacrifice." The beneficiary of this sacrifice is the United Auto Workers, a Democratic pressure group which is being shoved to the front of the line and favored above the secured creditors.

How did Obama get these creditors to relinquish their rights? Major banks who have taken TARP money caved in first. When they were dragooned into taking government money last fall, Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson swore that the government would not interfere in their operations or dictate their decisions—except for how much they lend, how much they pay their executives, and how much they accept as a buyout in major bankruptcy cases, and so on.

As for the non-TARP lenders, Obama has publicly singled them out as villains to be punished—and one prominent bankruptcy lawyer says that Obama's minions have been making direct threats to ruin firms who don't accept the sacrifice of their rights. Tom Lauria of White & Case, which represents several of the secured creditors, explains in a radio interview that "One of my clients was directly threatened by the White House and in essence compelled to withdraw its opposition to the deal under threat that the full force of the White House press corps would destroy its reputation if it continued to fight."

At RealClearMarkets, venture capitalist Bill Frezza succinctly sums up the meaning of the Chrysler deal: "There's no law to protect the politically unfavored in this country." He also sums up its economic consequences: "Why would anyone lend money to heavily unionized companies knowing that if things went wrong, the president and his men could trash their security interests by executive decree, hold them up to public vilification, and subject them to future retribution by regulators?"

This is not an isolated case. TIA Daily reader Robert Butterfield draws my attention to Obama's statement about a new initiative to shake down corporations for $200 billion by increasing taxes on their overseas subsidiaries. In describing his attempt to shut down offshore financial institutions that won't act as enforcers for the IRS, Obama says, "If financial institutions won't cooperate with us, we will assume that they are sheltering money in tax havens and act accordingly."

What does this mean? Several other reports explain:

Obama also planned to ask Congress to crack down on tax havens and implement a major shift in the way courts view guilt. Under Obama's proposal, Americans would have to prove they were not breaking US tax laws by sending money to banks that don't cooperate with tax officials. It essentially would reverse the long-held assumption of innocence in US courts.

In other cases, the administration is re-writing or re-interpreting existing laws to empower them to impose new controls. I have already written about the EPA's decision to re-interpret the Clean Air Act—passed to deal with the alleged problem of "acid rain"—to apply to carbon dioxide emissions, enabling the administration to impose "cap-and-trade" energy rationing without the approval of Congress. Now the administration is seeking to re-write the Montreal Protocols—intended to prevent the alleged erosion of the ozone layer—and use that treaty as another tool to impose global warming regulations.

According to the Associated Press, the goal is "to enact mandatory reductions in hydrofluorocarbons."

The change—the first US-proposed mandatory global cut in greenhouse gases—would transform the ozone treaty into a strong tool for fighting global warming. "Now it's going to be a climate treaty, with no ozone-depleting materials, if this goes forward," an EPA technical expert said Wednesday.

The irony is that "the Montreal Protocol created virtually the entire market for hydrofluorocarbons, or HFCs." The original treaty banned chlorofluorocarbons, or CFCs, the main coolant used in refrigerators and air conditioners. So manufacturers turned to HFCs as a replacement. Now that the government is banning HFCs, it's not clear what we're going to use to preserve our food or cool our homes—and maybe that's the point. Think how much our "carbon footprints" will shrink when we can't run our air conditioners any more.

And don't worry about this proposal coming up for a vote, either. HFCs were targeted by the same EPA ruling that declared carbon dioxide to be a pollutant.

This willy-nilly expansion of government power isn't just about economics. The move that should make us most concerned is Obama's attempt to make the government the sole source of funding for higher education. Obama's plan would

expand the Pell Grant program, making it an entitlement akin to Medicare and Social Security. Key to the effort is a consolidation of student lending that would give the US Department of Education a near monopoly over the practice.

This would make every university in the nation financially dependent on the federal government. And the TARP bailout shows us that this administration isn't shy about reminding the recipients of federal funds that he who pays the piper calls the tune. Do you think an administration that fires CEOs of private companies, mandates the design and manufacture of "green" cars, and dictates terms to private creditors would shy away from asserting its vision of the proper policies and curriculum in the universities?

If you want to make the state into the central, controlling institution in the economy, it will become the central, controlling institution everywhere else, too—in the realms of education, ideas, art, entertainment.

This new lawless state, which has a hand in every important aspect of our lives and feels free to re-write or override the law at will, is not just something that Obama is implementing in practice. He advocates it in theory, too.

When he announced the pending retirement of Justice Souter from the Supreme Court, President Obama described what he was looking for in Souter's replacement.

I will seek someone who understands that justice isn't about some abstract legal theory or footnote in a casebook; it is also about how our laws affect the daily realities of people's lives, whether they can make a living and care for their families, whether they feel safe in their homes and welcome in their own nation. I view that quality of empathy, of understanding and identifying with people's hopes and struggles, as an essential ingredient for arriving at just decisions and outcomes.

The idea that the law is not about "empathy" but about "abstract legal theory" is an ideal that men have fought for centuries to achieve. It is the idea that the meaning of the law is objective and predictable, that the law will be interpreted and administered only on the cold, factual merits of the case—that the scales of justice are tipped only by reasoning and evidence, and not by the judge's emotional sympathy for one party over another. We call this "the rule of law," and the whole point of it is that the last thing you should have to think about when you enter a courtroom is whether or not the judge likes you.

That is what Obama wants to reverse. He is replacing the rule of law with the rule of men. This is a system that divides men into politically favored groups—the ones who are considered worthy of "empathy"—and politically unfavored groups, who can expect their rights to be trampled and ignored.

All of this is being done in the name of helping out the "little guy"—but its real purpose is to make the little guy into the helpless pawn of government. It is a network of controls designed to prevent the little guy from rising and making a success of himself—and instead make him go hat in hand to a government official for every important need of his life, from buying a house to sending his kids to college, and pleading for "empathy."

Green Smoke

MasterResource runs the numbers - and exposes the outright fraud of the Waxman-Markey climate change legislation. It simply does nothing but burden Americans with huge expenses for energy - the “climate Change” it will avert is noise on the system, not any real savings.

By the year 2050, the Waxman-Markey Climate Bill would result in a global temperature “savings” of about 0.05ºC regardless of the IPCC scenario used-this is equivalent to about 2 years’ worth of warming. By the year 2100, the emissions pathways become clearly distinguishable, and so to do the impacts of Waxman-Markey. Assuming the IPCC mid-range scenario (A1B) Waxman-Markey would result in a projected temperature rise of 2.847ºC, instead of 2.959ºC rise- a mere 0.112ºC temperature “savings.” Under the IPCC’s high-emissions scenario, instead of a projected rise of 4.414ºC, Waxman-Markey limits the rise to 4.219ºC-a “savings” of 0.195ºC. In either case, this works out to about 5 years’ worth of warming. In other words, a full implementation and adherence to the emissions restrictions provisions described by the Waxman-Markey Climate Bill would result only in setting back the projected rise in global temperatures by a few years-a scientifically meaningless prospect. (Note: I present the results to three significant digits, not that they are that precise when it comes to the real world, but just so that you can tell the results apart).

Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.

As regular readers know, I work in the energy field and have for many years. I know what kind of green smoke is being blown by the advocates of renewables. I know how much damage is being done in the name of “green” energy.

There are real solutions to energy, using time-proven methods available with today’s technology. It is called a closed cycle nuclear program.

It is not wind power that is available only 30% of the time. It is not solar energy which is generally available even less. It is most certainly not rapacious government programs designed to drive energy costs into the stratosphere. (And line government pockets and the pockets of “green” investors like Al Gore.)

America got where it is today primarily because of cheap energy that allowed it to develop even better technologies.

A meaningless carbon reduction program with ridiculous “savings” in carbon emissions at brutally high cost to America is not the answer.

ED DRISCOLL: An Inconvenient Narrative.

An Instapundit reader asks:

How come gas has gone up about 50 cents since January and we don’t hear the media complaining about the little people?

Just wondering…

And the Professor responds that it “Doesn’t fit the narrative.”

Well, in a sense it does: when gasoline prices were at their lowest in December, Tom Brokaw of NBC, the New York Times, and the Washington Post, the troika of east coast establishment liberalism, all called for the Office of the President Elect to raise gasoline taxes once in office. (You can see Brokaw in action about 6:30 into this edition of Silicon Graffiti.) So while they’d rather have higher gas prices benefiting the federal government’s coffers, all three news sources are perfectly OK with the average commuter (read: their customer base) getting soaked at the pump. And as candidate Obama told MSNBC last June, he’s happy with high gas prices as well as a deterrent to automobile usage  (such as driving to work to help grow the economy) , as long as the increase is in the form of a “gradual adjustment” to the higher prices.

Weak Treasury auction sends stocks lower. “The government had to pay greater interest than expected in a sale of 30-year Treasurys. That is worrisome to traders because it could signal that it will become harder for Washington to finance its ambitious economic recovery plans. The higher interest rates also could push up costs for borrowing in areas like mortgages.” It’s like people are losing confidence in the Obama Administration’s willingness to see that bondholders get paid. Oh, well — what could go wrong, really?

CHANGE! Obama To Fire His First Gay Arabic Linguist. Good thing we don’t have that homophobic Bush Administration anymore!

Plus, a “rainbow rebellion?” Who are the rubes again?

TPM MUCKRAKER: Pension Players Go Back To The Lincoln Bedroom Days.

Correra and Schiaffino have something in common: they have both worked as agents for a placement agency called Diamond Edge Capital, which is run by Marvin Rosen, a former finance director for the Democratic National Committee and Clinton campaign co-finance chair in Florida in 1992. . . . It’s unlikely that the most prominent boldfaced names thus far dragged into the scheme — like money manager turned car czar Steve Rattner, had any clue about the more brazen practices of the scheme’s masterminds. But the investigation stands to shed considerable light on those players perceives as “normal” in the unregulated world of middlemen who control access to the pursestrings of public finance.

Some folks’ “normal,” after all, might raise the eyebrows of the average citizen. If Rosen sounds familiar, it’s because he was one of the key figures involved in promoting sleepovers in the Lincoln bedroom for top campaign contributors in the nineties. In 2005 Rosen joined Diamond Edge, where he now holds the title of chairman, and helped secure a handful of investments for hedge fund clients from the New Mexico and New York state pension funds. Records show the firm booked at least $3.25 million on four New York pension fund investments in 2005 and 2006 and an unclear amount on another four in New Mexico.

Read the whole thing.

What Nan knew

By Michelle Malkin  •  May 7, 2009 07:48 PM

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi knew from September 2, 2002 that enhanced interrogation techniques, including waterboarding, were being used on jihadi detainees.

She knew. From Day One.

That’s what the CIA memo, published at Human Events, shows.

ABC News follows. Pelosi’s spokesperson says his boss has a “recollection” that is “different.”

Nancy Pelosi: Blink, blink.

Allahpundit surveys all the evidence contradicting Pelosi and comes to the only conclusion: Liar.

Say goodbye to your grandparents [Darleen Click]

The Democrats learned from the defeat of HillaryCare that they cannot afford the American public to actually learn the details of ObamaCare, so they are holding secret hearings and plan to nationalize American medicine by the end of this summer. All the while, Obama’s poodle MSM will cheerlead it with the Drumbeat of “Reform!!”. While the anemic “can’t we all get along” wing of the GOP is fumbling when they should be aggressively telling the truth …

Rationing is coming.

Obama says there will be “choice”. That’s a lie. They are already backing away from not taxing employer provided insurance, because there is no other way to fund this massive takeover. And it is also a great way to make the “Government option” the only option.

Quite simply:

Almost anyone familiar with the push for what is euphemistically called “health care reform” knows that many experts on the left believe that far too many dollars are spent on providing health care to people in the final weeks or months of their earthly lives. If controls can be placed on these expenditures, then more of the government’s resources will be available for younger and much healthier people.

This is not a hypothetical. Rationing’s effects are easily seen in Canada and Britain, where people are allowed to die by design in order to keep costs down.

Why spend money giving 70 year old grandpa a hip replacement? It’s not like he’s really that useful to Society any more. And premies born before 28 weeks? Pfffft. You’re thinking, like, it’s a real child or something? Macular degeneration? Hey one eye is good enough for you!

Think how much “healthier” the Government can make “us” by this Eugenics by Rationing Plan, and the money saved by no longer “wasting” it on frivolous research into new drugs, surgeries, technologies. Obama and the Dems want a “holistic” approach to healthcare … only the healthy and the lucky need survive.

I do like to be precise in my language.

I grew up in the formerly great city of Detroit.
It is now one of the laughing-stock cities on the planet. When I was growing up there in the 60’s, the schools were second to none (for government schools).
Everybody in my neighborhood had fathers that worked,
and the neighborhood was clean, and safe.

Now, due to the leftist policies of the former, and late mayor, Coleman Young, current representitive John Conyers, felonious ex-mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, his mother, Caroline Cheeks Kilpatrick, the foul-mouthed, incompetent City Council member, Monica Conyers, and yes, the UAW, AFL-CIO,

So, the voters fix to this unmanageable, ludicrous, and untenable situation is: Vote Democrat!

But, the schools have done their job well.
You now have ignorant children, who will pull the appropriate lever when their time comes, to vote for more empty promises.

My only hope for my city is that Dave Bing, former Detroit

I published the following vanity here before the election, I believe it anticipates Ali Sina's article:

THE OBAMA PATHOLOGY

The idea of the Authoritarian Personality originated in The Frankfurt School as a means of undermining the position of the father within the family circle and thereby undermine the family itself and ultimately the nation as a bulwark against communism. It was heavily larded with pseudo-Freudian analysis and was expanded to subvert all institutionalized authority. Every season we see an article, usually by some college professor with too much time in his hands or sometimes by psychiatrists acting either singly or in gaggles, opining that the current president, if he be Republican, is somehow psychologically deficient. No Republican president or Republican candidate in my lifetime has escaped this ritual psychoanalysis.

A recent excrescence of this genre is the book by Naomi Wolf in which she ludicrously argues that America, led by George Bush, is on the verge of descending into fascism. I have posted my objection to this sort of pseudoscience and I have tried to debunk this cheap propaganda so I am reluctant to engage hypocritically in the same game now. Well, I am going to do it anyway. I aim to indict about half of our whole society. The half, and likely more than half, that will vote for Barak Obama. My psychological conclusions do not pretend to the trappings of the "science" of the psyche and adorned with the word games of Freudian analysis, rather they are rooted in common sense.

The conclusion of anyone with common sense who has seen the films of innocent children singing their Obama songs or who has watched the quasi-military chanting and saluting of the Obama Youth in military garb must conclude that there is something very, very wrong with these people. I remember when I first saw the YouTube Children singing their Obama song I became conscious after a while that my mouth was gaping open, so appalled was I. My reaction to seeing the paramilitary gang marching into the karate hall was a mixture of embarrassment that these kids would make such fools of themselves and anger that adults would so brazenly manipulate children. Then I felt a creeping sense of unease that there was something potentially very sinister going on. Dear merciful God, this is Orwellian!

Beyond a very healthy repugnance to the spectacle of brainwashed children put on display, beyond the inescapable Maoist symbolism of it all, a commonsense person asks, what kind of man would permit this to go on in his name? What kind of parent would not seek to protect his child from such a man? What kind of pathology would lead parents who presumably love their children to consign those children to the demons of mind control? How could Americans fall for such a transparent cult of personality?

Unfortunately, we need not be uncertain about what kind of man would permit this grotesquerie to be advanced in his name. History provides us with plenty of examples: Hitler, Stalin, Mao, and Kim Jong-Il come to mind and now we add Barak Obama to the list. Why has he not spoken out and repudiated this? Would not a decent man do so if only for the children?

If Obama will not speak out now as a candidate when a little modesty, even false modesty, would advance his chances, what will he do when he gains office with no resistance anywhere on the horizon; no opposition in either the House or the Senate, no voice in traditional media to be raised against him, no institutional resistance on a national level of any kind organized to discourage him? Because he condones this obscenity one must ask, Is Obama really a narcissist as has been claimed? If so, how far will he go when he has the levers of power in his hands when there is no effective resistance to his ego?

How dangerous is Barak Obama?

Is he too dangerous to be put in a place where he could literally get us all killed? Or Is he the indispensable man in some sense? I do not think so. There is nothing in his career that suggests that he is the man for this season. In a time of war he has no military experience. In a time of looming financial disaster, he has no economic credentials. If he is potentially dangerous and if he is not indispensable, why would so many people want to put him in a position where he could do us harm, even get us all killed?

My commonsense explanation is that there must be a pathology, a mass psychosis, that brings people to the point where not only are they eager to make him the most powerful man in the world but they are invoking his name and calling upon him to be their savior. This they do rather than falling on their knees out of fear of The Real God.

This is the Obama pathology.

To a middle-class conservative who instinctively rejects conspiracy theories and normally wants to think the best of people because that's what he learned in Sunday school, this deification of an empty suit is as bewildering as it is frightening. What in the world are these people thinking? Do they not weigh the risks of consigning their fate to an unqualified man, worse, a person tainted his whole life with stunningly dangerous confederates including felons and Communists and terrorists? What is the upside? What is it about this man whose career is utterly uninterrupted by any accomplishment which would motivate these people to risk their children and my children to whatever he might do to them? How do they know? How can they be sure? Don't they have any doubts?

My problem is that I am seeking after that which I cannot find. I want to find an explanation in logic for a phenomenon of emotion. It is easy for middle-class conservatives to overlook the power of emotion even though history provides plenty of examples even within our own culture in America. Can logic explain why so many drank Jim Jonse's Kool aid? Why Charles Manson commanded such blood loyalty? How many cheered OJ Simpson's acquittal? Why did princes Diana's passing traumatize a nation? These are not questions which are answered with everyday commonsense. One almost has to go to the Bible to see the answer in Old Testament allegory which lets us know that evil is and there will always be worshipers of the golden calf.

I fear that in November we conservatives might find ourselves involuntarily embarked upon a journey that is foreign to our epistemology. We may be going into dark places and we might well be pushed into a netherworld where our common sense values are of no use because it is a place where down is up and black is white, a place where gravity does not pull but pushes, a place where we will need a pocket translator in order to converse in English with our government, our children's teachers, and our keepers even though they superficially use the same words we do. We sense we are about to be overwhelmed by forces guided by the ghost of Saul Alinsky.

I fear the downside of the Obama Pathology after his election may extend to dimensions we cannot begin to fasten to our everyday understanding or to our common sense. We have no way of knowing what will come because we don't know anything really about Barak Obama. We do not know if he is purely evil, we do not know if he is a committed communist, we do not know if he is a racist, we do not know if he wishes to see the submergence of the United States into a greater world order, we do not know if he is a megalomaniac, we do not even know, God help us, if he hates America. We do not know, in short, if we are backs - to- the- wall confronted with the Liberals' quadrennial nightmare: A real Authoritarian Personality.

We do know that Barak Obama has already encouraged a cult of personality whose implications are truly frightening and fundamentally un-American.

VDH: Why Did Republicans Lose Their Appeal?

This is a good and thoughtful essay, well worth reading in its entirety and pondering well.

After the 2006 debacle, I wrote "Once ( nominally, at least ) in power, the Republicans spent, regulated, and taxed like a bunch of Democrats- no wonder voters decided to choose The Real Thing."

I'd add to that, that McCain came from behind and made two tactically brilliant moves which he promptly squandered.

Sarah galvanized people- like my wife-- who normally loathe politics.
And he immediately blew that by sequestering her for two weeks with, for God's sake! Bush cronies as advisors.

Then, he suspended his campaign for that highly suspicious "financial crisis"-- a move that threw 0-whatshisname for a utter loop. ( "Uh, call me?" )

And blew that by going along with the Good Ole Boys who helped create the mess in the first place.

So much potential, such a waste.

DO YOU THINK? Pelosi Has Lost ‘Credibility’ on Interrogation Tactics. “ABC News’ Rick Klein reports: The top Republican on the House intelligence committee told ABC News Friday that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi ‘doesn’t have any credibility’ in her claim that she was never briefed by intelligence officials that waterboarding and other hard interrogation techniques had been employed.”

Plus, Pelosi folds.

It Wasn’t Just Pelosi. “The leak clearly shows that some in the CIA have resolved not to take the heat for waterboarding all by themselves, and shows what a miscalculation Obama made by releasing the legal memos. Until that time, the CIA appeared content to let people talk about Bush-era tactics in academic terms, especially since the agency had dropped the procedures in question several years earlier. After the release of the OLC memos prompted talk of prosecutions, that all changed, and now Obama knows how Bush felt when the CIA decided to leak damaging information to the press.”

Obama Unemployment Climbs to 8.9%-- Highest in 25 Years

Change!... So much for creating for saving 2 million jobs.

The US Economy lost 539,000 jobs in April.
The national unemployment rate climbed to 8.9%-- the highest its been in 25 years.

During his 100 Day Press Conference Barack Obama bragged that his administration had created or saved 150,000 jobs.

The US economy lost 598,000 jobs in January.
The US economy lost 706,000 jobs in February.
The US economy lost 742,000 jobs in March.
And, in April, 539,000 jobs were lost.

So, in other words Team Obama has lost 2,585,000 jobs so far this year and only created or saved 150,000 jobs.
That's some change, huh?
