Cameras do not make photographs...people do!

True, but partial.

People cannot do the same things with film that they could before.

Film has become more immune to variations in exposure and processing - and therefore less possible for the "people" to vary their results.

As for digital cameras - forget it. Unless the subject is motionless, the quality of image is far below that of photography decades ago.
