Well, I went looking to see if I could find a photo like the typewriter we had. I can't find the exact one. But, I found something very similar.

Only thing is, ours had this huge carriage return handle sticking out like 4 inches at the right end of the carriage. And the brand name was in a completely different location.

Once again.... *shudder*

The sound of old typewriters is very satisfying (Mom hated computer keyboards that didn't "click"), but at least keyboards don't bite!

This is mine, right down to the bulgy cover over the ribbon, the leather handle on the case and the little clip to hold papers, except mine is black not blue:

I don't see how your typewriter could have a carriage return lever on the RIGHT side - unless you were typing in Hebrew. That was probably the paper bail adjustment or the line space lever.

I wonder -- do Hebrew typewriters have the carriage return on the opposite side? . . . . yes they do:

Amazing what Google can turn up!

LOL at the picture of the old typewriter! I graduated college with a Business minor, and one of the classes I had to take was 'Business Machines". Now this was 1973, but we had these HUGE old cash registers and calculators. One of them was at least 2' tall by 3' wide! You had to enter every digit of each part of an operation before doing it. It is what was used before electronic calculators, I guess. Why on earth we had to learn to use them was beyond me. I guess if you were going to work for some company from the 1920s that had NEVER updated its office machines it would have been useful!

I have one of those! My parents did anyway...with the big handle out the side too! I used it a lot just for fun when I was a kid...wrote long stories and sappy peoms on it.

I still have the typewriters I used when taught myself to type. One was my mother's little portable; one was an upright similar to the one in your picture. My daddy rescued the second one and buffed it up for me, and I would sit cross-legged in the middle of my bed and type all night long ...
