Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Oh my...THANK YOU!!!

Glad you all had fun at your Moot! I suspect we will need several days at the 2004 Moot to accomplish all of the talking and visiting we would like to do.
One of the things I regret from our Texas mini-moot is that Rose and I were late arriving at the theater, so that we didn't get much time before the movie to relax and visit. We tried to make up for it after the movie though!

We're in Rivendell... Boromir is throwing Narsil around.
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
I am an hour behind you then.... I have just turned the commentary on, since I have only been through that really once. I think I am going to go settle on the couch for a bit.
From what I remember here, I was really impressed with Phillipa Boyens... and PJ...

Yes, Fran Walsh doesn't seem to have much to say...
I thought it was cute that Fran Walsh and Peter Jackson were used as the portraits of Bilbo's parents hanging over the mantle at Bag End.
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
Well, Phillipa really knows this stuff, and it is interesting to hear how they actually view the story, as filmakers.

Phillipa really knows this stuff, but I'm getting the impression that Mr. Jackson doesn't know it as well... which is a little disturbing!
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
He does, but yes, not as well. That is why he hired Phillipa. A smart man knows when to hire an advisor! ;~D. It is kindof funny... He will kindof flub something that is fairly basic, and then jump into some bit of obscure trivia where he is very right.

300WM; sounds like a great project; have used several types over the years, the little thumb ring green one; lensatic on a jacob staff, and my fav, the silva ranger. use both the quad and degree, (depends on record source and easier than coverting on the fly) besides these don't need batteries (okay gps has its place) but don't like to rush into things :-)

Rose caught something in the Departure from Rivendell scene at the start of the second disk... PJ mentions that there is a scene of Frodo talking with Elrond, that "doesn't appear in this version of the movie." Hmmm... will there be a third version? Perhaps the grand super-extended boxed set of all three movies...?
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
OK, when Saruman is on top of the tower invoking the mountain-story, if you look closely at his left hand, you can see his middle finger is in a heavy bandage. Apparently, Christopher Lee had banged his finger in a hotel-room door and it was all bandaged up.
Heard this on the Director's Commentary, and looked for it... it's there all right!
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
mountain-storm, duhhhh....
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
Yeah.... The other time he mentions something like that is when we see Gollum in Moria...
He talks about it being a very prototype Gollum, and that they really didn't know what he was gonna end up looking like yet. He said, maybe we will go back and "fix" the Gollum shot sometime in some future release..
Just kill me PJ! Go ahead! Tell me to write more checks! ;~D

...but Jeanne would have me paint it red, if she could talk me into it. I had to talk Mrs. Stormhands into letting me paint the front door red. Now she likes it.

Today was my dog bath day too! Not here. I did manage to get Jr. to take a shower. Dog still stinks...
To: HairOfTheDog
Yes, we just saw the part about Gollum... Gandalf facing the Balrog now.
The extended discussion of dwarf-tossing was sort of interesting!

"Gonna make us a sign for Entmoot 04?"
Sure. Maybe a canvas banner. What should it say? A long expected party? Whatever we want.
We can hang it on ksen's house.

Today (Sunday) marks 40 days into the wait, out of 365 according to the timeclock. So, if you consider the time from when the TTT movie was released to now, it just was not that long ago, not so long at all! It went by really fast.
Figure just a little longer than 8 more of those and we will be there. Easy.

Good night All, see you tomorrow.

then the final book was such a horrible attack on Christianity and the church and even God. It was almost laughable how virulent that man is about faith and God... That's one of the things we discussed, and she understands how he's attacking the Faith. She's not affected by this, thank goodness, she knows what she's been taught, and his attacks haven't changed that. I think it will help her pick this kind of stuff out in later books as she goes along.
