The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Let me know when you have DSL. I'll tell you about some enormous file you can go download just for grins! OK! I'm so excited about this, I've been practically stopping people on the street to say "I'm getting DSL!"
Should be five days at the most!!

"I use instant yeast, not the active dry"
Didn't know there were 2 kinds, can I get the instant in smaller quantities, do you think?
This will be my first attempt at breadmaking since my college roomate and me tried it 30 years ago. We made "Irish soda bread," after we ate it, we couldn't move, felt like big rocks were in our stomachs. Also made beer then, it had the same effect, plus it tasted bad.
However, now I am pretty OK at cooking, esp. when I concentrate.

Electric blanket? I just pile on the comforters and the afghans. And in my case, the dog and cats. Works well!

She can't hear me asking questions! - She is deaf as a post!
But I know what you mean. No, doesn't want water, not hungry, doesn't want out, just stands there looking unsatisfied.
To: RosieCotton
I can't wait until DSL is offered in my area. It's so frustrating when you willing to pay for it and it just isn't available.

These mini moots are cool, RWRF, kind of exciting to see them happenning.
To: rightwingreligiousfanatic
Yes, do publish any useful strategies for having a safe and successful minimoot!

How about satellite access, Ruthy, can't you get that anywhere? I think it's meant to be high speed.

Maybe it's time to call her. LOL!!

That is a great mental image, isn't it? Imagine us sitting at the table in the restaurant and having sad little faces pressed up against the window looking at us. LOL!!But they'd have to be able to hear the conversation, too. I picture it kind of like the "crying room" in some churches where they can see the service through glass and hear it all too at the same time.... kind of a "lurker room"....LOL!
To: Sam Cree
I do believe that satellite is available, but that service is a bit more expensive. And with the strict homeowner's association we have, it's a bit of a dilemma to get any dish (no matter how small) put up on the house.

No cable, either? I was surprised...here I am in a dinky little town in Northern VT, and I had to pick between the two!
There are still places far from either, though. It'll probably be decades before my Dad has access to anything but a [rather lousy] phone dial-up. And it's finicky when it gets cold, too - they sometimes have to try six or seven times before it finally connects.
To: rightwingreligiousfanatic
LOL! Oh man, I feel bad for them even if they don't exist!

And maybe because in The Sixth Sense the dead people aren't really trying to hurt the kid.But you don't know that until near the end. The scene where Cole(?) is going to the bathroom and the ghost walks by the bathroom door nearly made me jump out of my skin. The ending also "got" me in that I think I felt just like the character would have felt making the same discovery.

"worry and walking with God cannot exist together..."I need to be reminded of that daily.....
To: RosieCotton
The whole problem is that everything is run underground and the association is elf-ridden. They cannot bear to see the grass torn up for a week while the new cables are installed.
Eventually they will have to relent since it is apparent that many residents want DSL.
