Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I can't tell if she is in pain, or is just forgetting where she was going. I have days like that.
To: Corin Stormhands
I put basil in the ratatouille.

I understand Sam. I'm really having second thoughts about my mother-in-law moving in with us. But I can't bring that up with anyone in the family yet.
So, I'm currently working on just delaying things until at least summer.
To: Corin Stormhands
So do I! She sat with me quite awhile last night on the couch, until she had enough, then slept most of the night I think. She is still a little out of sorts this morning though. I hope she is just losing her mind.... I don't think that is painful.

Good morning! At this moment I am watching my horse roll in the mud in his $200 coat. Such a mess when they are wet and roll.

I was afraid of being kind of "unwelcomed", if you take my meaning. But you brought food when you came! Food is always welcomed.
Now you're a part of us and we'd like ya even if you didn't cook for us.
To: Overtaxed
I didn't have an Uncle Ratatouille.
To: Corin Stormhands
But I should probably update you guys now on the family stuff since I mentioned it,Thanks for the updates, Corin. I'm so relieved to hear that things are going much smoother lately.
Now, if we could bring back the elf-bashing and spamming, life would be almost back to normal!

Ooops, did I say that outloud?
To: Sam Cree

They don't have a party room you could reserve? Not for a party of 7 they don't! LOL!
Now someone is planning on taking pictures, right?
I plan on bring a disposable camera, at the very least.

Sam, when I make the challah, I use instant yeast, not the active dry. I get it in one pound bags from Sam's. Anyway, I use 1 and a half teaspoons of the instant yeast and I just mix it right in with all the other wet ingredients in step 2, after I beat the eggs. It does not require the proofing.
Also, it calls for adding saffron, I never do...I just use the plain water.
I'm making a challah and a corned beef for my parent's supper...

If it's a typical Cracker Barrel, you'll want to get there to put your name in early. Of course the ones around here are all located along I-95, so they get lots of business.

But then she will have a time like last night, where she just paces around the loop of the house, through the kitchen and back around... over and over again. Can't tell what she wants, and everywhere she tries to lay down she can't get comfortable. Sometimes she will just stand in the middle of the room with a kindof glower on her face and not move. I can't tell if she is in pain, or is just forgetting where she was going. Hard to read. Sounds like doggy senility to me. They get pretty frustrated as they get older, just like people do!
Does she whine when you ask her "What's wrong?" or "What do you need?"

Oh, and of course, I make sure everything is either fairly warm or room temperature when I mix it together and put it in a slightly warmed oven, covered.
MMM! I better get started on my loaf!

I can hear 2J saying: "Dear Ruthy, bless her heart, she just doesn't understand that her incessant chatter goes over so much better with food on the table."
