Yes... this quarter I have English Comp II (research paper... hope it's my choice), Critical Thinking (my mother has been after me for years to learn that skill), American Gov II, and MidEast Conflicts, plus I continue private tutoring in Arabic and Hebrew. It's a full plate, but well worth it.
To: carton253
That sounds intense...what do they teach in "critical thinking?" I get the impression that you are pretty good at that, already.
To: Sam Cree
I don't know... my brother says it's to recognize bias and separate it from the facts. It is under philosphy and counts as an English component. I'll let you know.
To: Sam Cree; carton253
I'm sure 'critical thinking' will be considered to be any kind of thought that brings you out on the left side of the issue.

I think the writers had to do that to keep the ring in jeopardy... and introduce Gondor... and stay true to Farimir's character when we first met him (he was severe in the books)... there was alot being accomplished in those scenes. To see the desperation of Gondor gave us a better understanding of Boromir also. If memory serves....wasn't there a battle at Osgiliath (sp?) that happened before the Council of Elrond? Could PJ just have moved that encounter? I don't have my source material with me today!
To: Overtaxed
I don't know... I haven't read the books enought to remember that.
But I didn't mind Faramir taking Frodo to Osgiliath.

Mornin' all. Just finished in the intraoffice debriefing. A couple of them took the entire day off to see it and I saw them leaving on my way in to the theater. Yesterday was a great day for us Tolkien fanatics/engineers/sciency/nerds.
Office consensus: The Faramir tweak was not good, although I'm hopeful he'll be developed more fully in the next movie. Wargs rock so does Gollum. The Ents were excellent to look at but their indifference was irksome. Theoden and Aragorn seemed weak (I don't share that opinion). Overall, PJ should have stayed closer to the book with details such as who was at the Deep, the life and times of Eomer, etc. But bottom line, we all loved it.

You are probably right. But I'm not going to do it... wouldn't be prudent.

"316 HOURS TO GO!"
At least you don't have to wait till after CHINESE New Year (Feb 1st). I hope that cheers you.
I haven't seen it yet either...sure fun reading all the reviews.

I don't think g'nad or Corin have seen it yet either. That is sadly correct. Jr. and I are going tonite.

I'm sure 'critical thinking' will be considered to be any kind of thought that brings you out on the left side of the issue. Chuckle, chuckle. One of the zealots over in the religion wars has been harping on how I need to be a critical thinker.
I told her she wasn't a thinker. She was just critical.
To: Corin Stormhands
That's funny... and true... but, it probably went right over her head. Stay away from the religious wars. Nothing good can come from them.

I pinged you to my holiday opus over there yesterday...
To: Lil'freeper
Hi, Lil'freeper!
See everyone later, have to go get some stuff.
To: Corin Stormhands
I'm on my way to read it...
To: John Farson
It was great. We are looking to see what times it will show tonight so we can see it again, and then make the Saturday matinee maybe too.

Good morning one and all!
So nice to see all of the new faces here in the New(er) Hobbit Hole. Very exciting! I'm even happier to see that the Hole has remained SPAM free for so long. Who knows how long that will last now that I'm here! *wink*
Thanks to SuziQ for taking care of vittles while I was away! I'm back, so let me prepare a lovely breakfast (first or second depending on time zones!).
Let's have some oatmeal for the elves. After viewing TTT twice already, it is absolutely necessary. Elrond's expression as the elves were leaving Rivendell absolutely begged for Metamucil! LOL!!! What was up with the deeply furrowed brow? I guess he knows Arwen is going to stay. (?)
For good ol' Smeags, I've got a few fishesessss and some water from the Forbidden pool. Enjoy them while you can, Slinker! ;)
For the rest of Middle Earth folk, I have fried up a batch of bacon and eggs, some sausage patties and hash browns. Buttermilk biscuits are just pulled out of the oven, so be careful - they are HOT! Freshly churned butter and plenty of strong coffee to go with the grub. I managed to stop by Farmer Maggot's and wrestled some fine looking mushrooms from the ol' skinflint, so they've been sauteed in the butter and set out for your delight. *grin* Orange juice is on ice, so be sure to put it back when you're done with it. ENJOY!!

Mornin' Ruthy. Thanks for breakfast!
I'm off for the rest of the day. Company "holiday" luncheon event. Here's betting that, once again, I am NOT the Employee of the Year (I had a shot at it for a major project last year, if I didn't get it then, I'm just not gonna get it). But it pretty much just means a plaque, there's no money for raises...so who cares...
The real "award" will be seeing the movie this evening. I'll try to pop in afterwords...please keep medicine and pints handy...
To: Wneighbor
Neighbor,
We looked hard for it, but we did not hear it. Unless there are different cuts of this film out here, Jackson left a plot hole by failing to reveal just how Faramir comes to know that his brother has died.
Then again, no one else seems to have noticed on their own account. My wife never did, and she has never read the books - so I expected that she might wonder about it.
It's a small cavil.
To: RMDupree
You wouldn't happen to have a recipe for Ginger Snaps, would you? (I may be able to use them as a bribe to get my siblings to accompany me to the movie TODAY!)
