Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Make sure you have at least one religion that opposes the magic. ;~D

That's the intellectual Greek-Egyptian type peoples. The pseudoCelts have some sort of natural magics, and the Assyrian-Roman empire uses blood magic.
Also there are eastern-pirate sorts who are not into magic or religion at all. They're trying to make gunpowder.

In the process of experimenting, a lot of them will get blowed up real good.

Good Morning everyone!
Only got an inch and a half of snow and it didn't even stick to the roads. Still, work is delayed 2 hours. Great...now I have to go out and fight the traffic.

Morning all.
64 degrees here, breeze WNW at 8 kts., pressure 30.07 inches, water temperature 73.8, good temperature for sailfish. feels very damp. forecast is for temps in the low 40's next 2 nights, with afternoon highs around 60 and winds NW at 20 kts, which will get rid of the dampness.
Think I will break up some kindling.

Sounds like you got away with it, guess this must be a great year for ski resorts in the Southeast, though I think Scott would freak at some of them.

21 here... winds outta the NNW at 9mph, barometer at 29.90 and rising...about an inch of powder on the deck... wish it was deer season...

The ski people must be happy this year. But I don't do winter sports so I wouldn't know various ski resorts compare.

"The dust from sanding is somewhat toxic itself. Good respirator and ventilation is a must."
That is interesting. To tell you the truth, I believe most wood dust is more harmful than folks appreciate, I usually use a dust mask even when operating my table saw, and a respirator for sanding + a ventilator if I am working on a project indoors.
Remember reading about the Mary Rose, in Nat'l Geographic, I suppose. I have saved the names of the 2 books, going to see if the library here has them. You can now access the card catalogues thru your home PC, which is cool.

I have been skiing at Wintergreen, in Virginia, had a great time, but there are always a few folk from out west on the slopes, they are usually slightly appalled at the conditions (ice on top of the snow, 'cause it melts during the day, then freezes again at night, it rains instead of snows while you are skiing, etc.).
Virginians do not grow up skiing, either, lots of folks are falling and sliding around, wearing blaze orange hunting gear, too.
To: g'nad; osagebowman
If I manage to pull off a move back to Virginia, I might take up bowhunting. Do you guys have recommendations for bows, or recommendations in a direction to look, in order to decide what type bow might be right? Am completely ignorant on this.
To: Sam Cree
What area in VA?
I don't know much about longbows sorry...
Compounds, the Matthews SQ2 is a great bow, I recommend any Matthews bow that fits.

22 here. But we got four inches of snow.
To: Sam Cree
Virginians do not grow up skiing... True. I grew up in the mountains of Virginia. Never tried skiing when I was younger. Now, I'd just break something.

Southern Albemarle. I doubt if a long bow would be wise anyway.

Chesterfield announced last night that they would be closed.
Got my "wish." They had to close for "Lee-Jackson Day."
Bwahahahahahaha!

We were up there 6 or so years ago, getting a lesson...one lady didn't even get through the part of the lesson where we just got used to the skis, we hadn't even actually skiid yet, when she fell and broke her leg...she got carried away on a toboggan, towed by a snowmobile.
Also was a Cuban guy from Miami in the lesson group, which was funny. The instructor was amazed to find 3 folks from Miami, trying to learn to ski in VA, of all places.
I've never been skiing out west, though I'd like to, but it always strikes me as incongruous hearing all those VA accents on a ski slope.
To: Sam Cree
When I was in college, I broke my leg roller-skating. I know better than to try my luck.
